Viktor Gyokeres
Position: Striker (F in Fantrax)
Team: Arsenal
Signed From: Sporting CP from €66m
Prospects: The 27-year-old Swede finally gets the Prem move long rumoured, but instead of reuniting with his old Sporting coach, Amorin, at Man United, he ends up at Arteta’s Arsenal, whose fans have been clamoring for a proper 9 for years in the post Auba/Laca era. Will he be the much needed upgrade to bag goals for the Gunners or another expensive dud from the Portuguese league, like the Saudi-bound Darwin Nunez? Well, both sides of the coin have been discussed at length by Ryan in the Arsenal preview and Totti in the DND article. To summarize, there’s a question of whether Gyokeres can adapt to the quicker, more physical Prem and hold down the starting 9 spot under the challenge of the recently impressive and Arteta-backed Kai Havertz. But there’s certainly a case to be made for an imposing 9 in a top 4 attack, that’s also 4th favorite to lead the league in goals by the end of the season. The upside is tremendous, but with any new signing stepping up to the Prem, particularly with competition for his place, so is the risk. Gyokeres is currently going toward the end of the first round, and that’s the most we’d like to pay. We’d much prefer to draft him early in the 2nd round, so it’s more likely than not a case of letting someone else reach and take the risk on him. If say you could get 1 of the 3 elite mids in the 1st and he falls to you in the 2nd, you should feel excellent.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
