This article will focus on trade advice that highlights players that are either worth trading in on a low, or trading out on a high. This could involve players who could see their minutes reduced, have a purple patch come to an end, or on the flip side involve players who might be starting to heat up. This article will also feature advice and strategy tips from our very own Draft Genie, and his interesting style of playing the game.

Fantasy EPL hints and tips

Players To Trade-In

This section will focus on players to target in your trade offers. Usually there are two types of players to trade-in. The ones you "buy low" on, who may be in a poor patch of form, injured, or not seeing consistent minutes with all that about to change. The second is where you "buy high". While that will sound contradictory, these players could be showing no signs of slowing down and are en-route to a breakout season. You want to try and trade-in these players before they become unattainable, even if it involves offering more than what their draft-day or early-season value was.

Reece James (CHE - DEF)

Analysis: Be Warned...this trade in is not for the faint of heart. Fortune favours the bold, and that exactly what trading in Reece James is...bold. James is coming off three consecutive starts for the first time in about a year. He has managed scores of 1, 7.5, and 7.5 in what can be considered a tough schedule. Maresca has shown with recent subs and European lineups that he is the clear first choice over Gusto, and his only minutes will be in the EPL. Also, just last game he got his fair share of set pieces...something we haven't seen in a while. It is never a question of talent or output with Reece, but always a question of health. If Reece somehow starts close to 30 games in a season, he has a real chance to be a top 5 defender...but that will potentially never happen.

Chelsea have one more tough game vs. Arsenal before the schedule really lightens up after the break with games vs. Leicester, Villa, and Southampton. Reece could see his first attacking return in one of these games, and hopefully a clean sheet or two. Many managers with Reece would have scooped him up off the waiver wire at some point in October, and you could get him for a real cut price deal. Now I am not saying to sell the farm for Reece, but a sneaky offer, playing on his horrendous injury record, could be a steal. No one knows just how long we will have Reece healthy for, but with the way Chelsea handled his last injury you expect he could have a decent run, and hopefully with managed minutes and only 1 game a week, he doesn't get injured again this season.

Trade Offer Value: Reece is a tough one to value. Some managers will have nostalgia and ask for an arm and a leg, thinking back to prime Reece. Others may just want a more reliable defender. I would start with a low ball offer of a DEF3 + 5-10 FAB. Players such as: Burn, Mitchell, Timber, and AWB are good places to start. I am okay jumping up a level as well to offer out: Mazraoui or Ait-Nouri to get him. You could also offer out a low-upside MID4. Players such as Ferdi, Caicedo, and Cook can all fit that mould, and you could even get yourself Reece + FAB or + 1 back.

Kai Havertz (ARS - FWD)

Analysis: I still remember the days of drafting Kai Havertz and Timo Werner round 1 only for both to be droppable. Well, after a great start, Kai has rolled back the years in his last 3 games, showing glimpses of his horrendous spell at Chelsea. In his last three starts he has COMBINED for 10.5 total points. After such a good start to the season, this is a weird thing to see. Kai was looking like he finally broke his EPL slump at Arsenal. I do not expect this trend of poor performances to continue, and think he is a great buy low. Arsenal as a whole have been really poor in their last three games, only getting 1 point out of a potential 9. The schedule will turn for them after Chelsea, who they should beat. Games against Forest and West Ham follow the Chelsea one, and you would expect Kai to get back to his best in that stretch.

Arteta has struggled to get a tune out of Arsenal in the last three, but again this most likely will not continue. Odegaard's return is imminent, which only helps their attacking output. Adding back their chief creator in midfield and allowing Kai to focus on being the number 9 up top will likely skyrocket Kai's fantasy ceiling. Despite Jesus and Trossard lurking for those CF minutes, Kai will still be the main man until proven otherwise. Kai has FWD1 upside and top 7 forward potential this season. Don't be fooled by his recent outings.

Trade Offer Value: I would start by offer out deals involving: Wood, Semenyo, Johnson, Hudson-Odoi with a strong + 1 in midfield. Package one of these overperfomlng forwards with midfielders such as: Kulusevski, Tavernier, or Buonanotte. While these players may not carry name value, they have been doing really well this season and could be sold to bring in someone with the ceiling of Havertz.

Players To Trade-OUT

This section will focus on players that you should be actively trying to trade out over the next week or so. These players could be on course to see a minute reduction or be having a bad season that it seems they can't recover from. A lot of times name value players will feature here, as you will still find managers who believe they can return to their glory days. Each season brings new challenges and as we have seen even the very best assets can fall off a cliff in just a single season (Rashford of 2024). Look to trade out these players before their value becomes so low that you may need to consider dropping them.

Antonee Robinson (FUL- DEF)

Analysis: Robinson had himself a gameweek vs. Brentford: 22.75 points with a last gasp assist. He was plenty busy on both ends of the pitch, but a lot of these points can be attributed to Fulham pushing for that late equalizer, and Brentford happy to just sit back and take it. Before this, Robinson had 4 single digit outings, surrounding a 10 point performance that was heavily reliant on a clean sheet. Fulham have just 1 clean sheet to date, and they haven't given us any indication that this will change much.

While Robinson is still chalking up ghosts (9.5 season average with 14.75 last week), the schedule is about to turn for Fulham. Palace and Wolves could provide more double digit opportunities for Robinson, but after that Fulham go against Spurs, Brighton, Arsenal, Liverpool, and then Chelsea after a friendly game v lowly Saints. I do not expect double digit outings in any of these games - aside from the Southampton one. Even vs. Palace and Wolves, both those teams can score and Robinson has proved to be very spotty in the last month or so. Managers will be keen to get him in looking at the very short term, and his recent 20+ outing. But again the numbers do not tell the whole tale of that game. I do think Robinson is a trade out, but if you cannot get value you are happy with, you can hold and hope he doesn't regress, although that schedule is not looking promising.

Trade Offer Value: I would offer out Robinson in a larger deal to aim for one of Van Dijk, Porro, or Trent. You will need to throw in a solid 2nd piece to get this over the line, especially for one of the Liverpool duo. Look to add in assets such as Rogers, Bernardo, or Andreas. If you are aiming for an attacking asset, Kulusevski would be a great target.

Moises Caicedo (CHE - MID)

Analysis: Caicedo has had himself a month: three double digit outings on the bounce, and his first goal of the season in the draw vs. United. Despite the strong ghosting efforts, and 2 attacking returns in his last three, the past is against him, and the role he plays isn't as exciting for Fantrax. While I think he can be a solid MID5 this year, maybe even a MID4, I do expect a heavy regression in his output, especially when Chelsea play the "easier teams". Caicedo is joining the likes of Casemiro, Rice, and Cook in the category of "all action CDMs", but these kinds of assets don't really scream upside.

Caicedo was most likely a free agent pickup in your league, and there will be managers desperate for a set and forget MID3-4. Offering out Caicedo with another player could land you a much better asset. For this trade to work, you will need to look at managers struggling to run out 3-4 consistent mids each week, and believe me there will be at least 2-3 in your league. Caicedo's best season has him at 4 total returns, and I don't see any reason why he will surpass this in 24/25.

Trade Offer Value: I would offer out Caicedo + 1, aiming for midfielders such as Kudus, Doku, and Mitoma to start. The +1 will need to be another solid midfielder. Try offering out the likes of Tavernier, Tielemans, or Kulu in this package. You may need to add a third piece to get this done, in which case defenders such as Mazraoui and Ait-Nouri can be added in.
