Gameweek 16 Ghost Point Hunters: Fantrax EPL

We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 16 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!

Gameweek 16 Ghost Point Hunters

Another day, another gameweek. The second quickfire GW of the week is upon us. No time to rest on your laurels - let's get it. The big board has some newcomers: Pablo Sarabia, Simon Adingra, & Kai Havertz (not a typo). Honorable Mention features some legends (+ Ryan Christie): Trent Alexander Arnold (welcome home), Gabriel Jesus (a beautiful thing), Ryan Christie (he's back), Ashley Young (uh., what?) & Jack Harrison (where have you been?). The Dr. Peter Venkman Award is destined for a Manchester City asset - Julian Alvarez is the sacrificial lamb.

Pablo Sarabia

Position: Midfielder

Team: Wolves

Rostered: 23%

Ghost Points Per Start: 8.3

Ghost Points Last GW: 14.5

Prospects: The Spaniard finally got his long-awaited start after his late game heroics v Tottenham, and while he failed to pick up an attacking return, he did not disappoint. Sarabia was on set pieces and dropped a mouthwatering 14+ ghosties: 3 Key Passes, 2 Shots on Target, 2 Tackles Won, 2 Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs) & 1 Successful Dribble. Wolves have another good matchup this weekend against out of sorts Nottingham Forest and if he starts again, he's a must stream. It's hard to tell if O'Neill will revert back to Bellegarde or stick with Sarabia so it's worth holding both and dropping whomever sees the bench. Let's hope he gets another start on the trot and will be a key player in the festive season (and keep his spot when Hwang goes off to the Asian Cup at the end of January). Fingers crossed.

Verdict: Pick him up/hold if you already have him.

Simon Adingra

Position: Forward

Team: Brighton

Rostered: 71%

Ghost Points Per Start: 8.5

Ghost Points Last GW: 12

Prospects: The youngster is starting to ghost - and we couldn't be prouder. Adingra followed up 13.5 scary scores in GW14 with a dirty dozen in GW15, stemming from 2 Key Passes, 2 Shots on Target, 1 Tackle Won, & 3 Successful Dribbles. We know he has an eye for goal but now is keen on ghosts as well. And he is as nailed on as it gets in the Brighton attack - he has now started 8 games since October. Unfortunately for his rosterers, he is off to Afcon with the Ivory Coast, which will keep him out of at least a few fixtures during the GW21-25 stretch. It might be to time to cash in.

Verdict: Trade high after this weekend (Burnley at home) or hold if you have other Brighton assets & could use the cover.

Kai Havertz

Position: Forward

Team: Arsenal

Rostered: 84%

Ghost Points Per Start: 5.6

Ghost Points Last GW: 15

Prospects: After countless letdowns, the enigmatic King Kai is finally starting to come good. Let's be real - his ghost points have been horrendous. He was rocking a paltry 4.4 GPPS before his 15 spot against Luton Town. But this could be a watershed moment. A confidence player is gaining some much needed confidence. He's nicking goals and now adding some supernatural elements. He was all over the place, delivering 4 Key Passes, 1 Shot on Target, 1 Interception, 2 Successful Dribbles, & 6 Aerials. It must be said that it was against lowly Luton Town and most Gunners also saw some joy. We're somewhat skeptical that this ghosting spree will continue (his GPPS last season was just over 6) but he is playing a new midfield role and is finding his feet. He is now at least worth it for managers to roster and punt on his renaissance.

Verdict: Wait until after this tricky matchup/likely lower score v Villa before testing the waters with trade offers.

Honorable Mention:

  • Trent Alexander Arnold (Liverpool DEF; 21.25 ghosts): Trent is cookin'. After a very slow start, he's proving his first round bonafides. He's averaging roughly 17 points per start over the past 7 games. The attacking returns and clean sheets are combining with ghosties, and that's what makes him so dangerous. Let's see if this continues or if it's just a nice purple patch.

  • Ryan Christie (Bournemouth MID; 16 ghosts): The Scot has been off and on all season. But he is finally showing some consistency, and is ghosting out of his mind. He has averaged 13 scary scores over the last 4 matches. This has dovetailed with Bournemouth's uptick in form, and with his set piece dominance, we're buying in.

  • Ashley Young (Everton DEF; 14.25 ghosts): Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? The RB - despite playing on the wing in his youth - served a new role this GW in the midfield, filling in for James Garner, who was out due to illness. He put in an all action performance. We don't see this continuing. But good for him.

  • Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal FWD; 13 ghosts): We needed this. Gabbie is recovering from a knock and struggling to post his numbers from last season - until now. The Brazilian added a goal and assist to his bag of ghosts. Let's hope this wasn't just a Luton Town thing. We know he can do it; he just needs to stay fit.

  • Jack Harrison (Everton MID; 11 ghosts): He has it in him to ghost but it just hasn't happened much. He was very unlucky to not pick up an attacking return but at least he had some ghosties to make up for it. Unless he cracks on from here, he'll continue to be a frustrating hold.

Category Killers:

  • Key Passes: Trent Alexander Arnold (7)

  • Successful Dribbles: Ross Barkley (6)

  • Aerials: Ibrahima Konate (14)

  • Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs): Ashley Young (3)

  • Tackles Won: Josko Gvardiol (6)

  • Interceptions: Edson Alvarez (5)

Dr. Peter Venkman Award:

Julian Alvarez (Manchester City FWD; 0 ghosts): The silky Argentine has been a stone cold baller this season. He boasts a double digit PPS and most importantly, for our purposes, a lovely 8.5 GPPS. With KDB out, Alvarez has kept a stranglehold on most set pieces, which provides a nice floor to go along with his tremendous upside. This all came crumbling down mid-week v Aston Villa. He looked gassed, along with his teammates, and was overrun by the Villans. Alvarez only had 2 clearances, which don't count for Forwards, to his name. This is likely an aberration - as we mentioned, most Man City assets fared poorly. He and the rest of City should see more joy this weekend v Luton Town. But that doesn't take away the indignation of receiving this award.
