Waiver Wire Gameweek 2
Here we outline our Fantasy EPL Waiver Wire Gameweek 2 targets that have 40% rostered or below on Fantrax. These players should perform well over the upcoming period!
Neco Williams (Ros 37%)
Prospects: According to our Fixture Difficulty Tracker, Nottingham Forest have the 3rd best defensive fixture over the next two gameweeks and so picking a Forest DEF should be one of your top priorities, especially if you need to fill that DEF roster spot. Neco Williams, the ex-Liverpool DEF, attempted 1 shot, registered 2 KP (Key Passes), 2 ACNC (Accurate Crosses Not Corners), 2 CoS (Successful Dribbles) as well as a flurry of defensive stats. This spread of actions, during Gameweek, 1 resulted in the Welsh DEF scoring 13.5 FPts, despite conceding a late goal. If Williams has that spot nailed, he could be a serious consideration as a DEF-2/3 for the rest of your season.
Verdict: I would use a mid-tier waiver pick or 4-5 FAB to get him.
Adama Traore (Ros 23%)
Prospects: Break out the baby-oil because Adama is back! There's a lot of hype around this dribble merchant, and rightly so. When the Spanish FWD saw a consistent run of starts, he was averaging 10-13 FPts per game, but it should be noted that back then Traore was playing for a different club. However, the current Fulham squad are an arguably more talented group of players than his old Wolves teammates, and Traore could see a return of form to his glory days. In Gameweek 1, Traore scored 5.5 FPts, which included 4 CoS (9 attempted). Fulham have the best fixture rating of all FWDs over the next two gameweeks, making Traore a no-brainer pick.
Verdict: I would use a mid-tier waiver pick or 5-6 FAB to get him.
Sammie Szmodics (Ros 1%)
Prospects: Sammie Szmodics is now 1 of 10 new faces that have been recruited by Ipswich Town for their 24/25 Premier League campaign. However, Szmodics might be the most eye-catching asset of their lot yet. Szmodics was the 23/24 Championship's golden boot winner, scoring the most goals (27), including 4 assists. In Gameweek 1, the ex-Blackburn Rovers MID came on as a late sub on the left-side of the attack versus Liverpool and scored 3 FPts in 15 minutes. Due to Hutchinson's versatility in playing either flank (from left to right), especially after Wes Burns' injury, Szmodics could get the start from Gameweek 2 and prove to be a real gem moving forward.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.
Check out the table below showing our waiver picks' essential stats from the recent past and for the upcoming GW.
Yerson Mosquera (Ros 1%)
Prospects: Wolves faced possibly their toughest opponents to start their 24/25 campaign, by squaring off against one of the potential title winners, Arsenal. Despite being outplayed completely, Wolves only conceded 2 goals with Mosquera being a stand-out performer. The Colombian DEF was the highest-scoring Wolves DEF with 8 FPts, which was actually 10 ghosts mainly comprising of defensive actions. A word of warning though - Mosquera might have a nasty side to his game as the Wolves DEF was lucky not to have seen a red card, despite his altercation with Kai Havertz. Mosquera now faces a Chelsea team that is under massive pressure, lost their first game of the season and have yet to score a goal.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.
Dean Huijsen (Ros 3%)
Prospects: Bournemouth's main centreback, Marcos Senesi, missed out during Gameweek 1 due to a nasty head injury that he suffered during their preseason. Although the Argentine DEF was deemed to be fit for the start of the season, Senesi did not even make the bench for the Cherries fixture versus Nottingham Forest. This led the way for Dean Huijsen to get his first start of the campaign. The young Dutch DEF put up 13.5 ghost points, which included 9 aerials, the highest of all players during Gameweek 1. Although there is always a risk that Huijsen is replaced by Senesi (Bournemouth's highest-scoring 23/24 DEF asset), you might as well enjoy the ride until the wheels fall off.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.
Carlos Alcaraz (Ros 2%)
Prospects: Southampton are back in the big leagues and have already faced a defeat in the opening gameweek of the season, despite playing against 10-man Newcastle for just over an hour. The Saints registered the most shots (19) of all teams in Gameweek but failed to even score once. With the transfer window set to close in just over a week, Southampton need to sign an attacking midfielder to improve their goal-scoring efforts. In the event that they don't, Alcaraz could be their secret solution. The Argentine MID came on as a substitute versus Newcastle, played 8 minutes and scored 6.5 FPts. If you're a manager with a deep squad and can afford a stash, Alcaraz could be a solid MID-3 in the making. One to watch.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.
