Waiver Wire Gameweek 2

Here we outline our Fantasy EPL Gameweek 2 Waiver Wire targets that are 40% rostered (Ros) or below on Fantrax. These players should perform well over the upcoming period!

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (Ros 2%)

Prospects: Longtime Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has joined Leeds United on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract, giving the club a proven albeit out of form Premier League scorer to bolster their front line. He enters a somewhat unsettled striker picture, with Joël Piroe and Lukas Nmecha also in contention for the starting role, though Piroe is the likely first choice to open the season. Injuries have hampered Calvert-Lewin in recent years, but when fit, he’s shown he can be a reliable goalscorer. Last season he made 19 starts, averaging 7 Points Per Start (PPS) and 5 Ghost Points Per Start (gPPS). While those numbers aren’t great, if Leeds reshuffle their attack and give DCL a run of games, there’s always the potential for him to rediscover the form that made him a relevant fantasy asset in years past. Keep an eye on the new Leeds #9 in the next few GWs, beginning at home vs Everton on Monday.

Verdict: Situation based. If your draft was a bit light on forwards and need an added option up front, I'd get as high as 7-8 FAB. But for most leagues, 0-5 FAB and a low-tier waiver pick should be enough.

Oscar Bobb (Ros 44%)

Prospects: Bobb was being touted as a high upside player before his unfortunate injury last August after an impressive pre-season. While the Savio transfer news isn't official, the Brazilian's departure could open even more avenues for Bobb to avoid the dreaded Pep roulette and get more starts. He did well vs Wolves and received a good amount of praise on the socials, racking up 13.5 points with an assist. The ghost points were lacking - just 2 Key Passes and 3 Successful Dribbles - in a 4 goal rout of Wolves. Nevertheless, he looked sharp and played the full 90. If Savio leaves, he may only have Foden to compete with for minutes for out on that wing.

Verdict: I would use a mid-tier waiver pick or 10-15 FAB to get him, especially if the Savio news is official by the time your waivers clear. At that point, I may go as high as 25 FAB.

Danny Ballard (Ros 5%)

Prospects: The capped Northern Ireland international exploded in his debut in the top flight, scoring 33 fantasy points with a headed goal and a clean sheet. He was the talk of many chats even before the goal, having around 11 ghost points before the halftime whistle. While I do think I'd rather have his teammate Trai Hume, who takes some set pieces, his stat sheet (8 Clearances, 6 Aerials, and 4 Blocked Shots) is tough to ignore. One game wonder or steady DEF2 rest of season? It's tough to know at this point. At the very least, bring him in for Sunderland's next few fantasy-favorable fixtures, starting with Burnley this GW. There is also a threat that he loses his spot with new defensive signing Mukiele joining the side. But that is stll TBD.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.
