Waiver Wire Gameweek 22
Here we outline our Fantasy EPL Waiver Wire Gameweek 22 targets that have 40% rostered or below on Fantrax. These players should perform well over the upcoming period!
Sven Botman (Ros 39%)
Prospects: The Dutchman is back with a bang from his ACL injury with 8 points in his first start and 14 with a clean sheet in his second. He is historically not a great ghoster, but Newcastle have been on an amazing run and while Bournemouth should be able to trouble them defensively, Botman is worth adding for medium to long-term value regardless of whether you start him this weekend or not.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 1-2 FAB to get him.
Mateus Goncalo Espanha Fernandes (Ros 24%)
Prospects: The "other Portuguese Fernandes" has been putting up very good ghost points recently adding a 9.75-pointer to his run in the gut-wrenching loss to Man United. At Nottingham and against Newcastle up next which on form seems like the worst set of fixtures right now in the Premier League. However Mateus Fernandes has been getting his points with very minimal (1G, 1A) attacking returns, so the fact that they are facing tough opposition shouldn't be an issue. Recently, he has also commanded quite a few set pieces, and with the height of Bednarek, Harwood-Bellis, Bree and even Onuachu to aim at, he could rack up key passes. He is of the Ayari-mould, a player you have no qualms about dropping/benching but one that will help you solidify your midfield.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.
Rodrigo Gomes (Ros 7%)
Prospects: The young forward has been getting a steady run of starts lately, but not where he or us would have expected. He has been playing full-back for Vitor Pereira's side and playing well. He has had back-to-back 8-point performances in the last 2 games mostly propped up by the coveted 3-point KP+ACNC combinations. A decent floor with an attacking threat is all we want from our streaming forwards, and he will provide great cover this weekend as Wolves are playing the Monday game.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.
Carlos Soler (Ros 6%)
Prospects: A lot has been speculated in the fantasy community about who could be the main beneficiary of West Ham's coaching change and while we still have no conclusion on the matter, we might have taken a step forward. When lineups came out, people could not quite figure out how all those centre mids will line up, and in the end Paqueta was played as a roaming false 9 and Soler was tasked with manning the left wing. While his goal could be counted as very fortunate, by all accounts Soler played well otherwise too and looked lively in the more attacking role. As the season progresses, the players will adapt more and more to Potter's tactics and new valuable players will appear. As an early adopter I decided to stick with Soler and wait to see how he develops fantasy-wise.
Verdict: I would use a mid-tier waiver pick or 3-5 FAB to get him.
Lucas Bergvall (Ros 15%)
Prospects: The blond Swede scored the winner against Liverpool in the League Cup semi and has managed to keep his place ahead of Maddison for the midweek game too. For those Spurs fans who picked him up, came the reward of 12.75 (after the previous week's very commendable 7.5 score). His points are almost solely driven by defensive stats, with tackles won, clearances and blocked shots among the ones that brought him these great scores. As long as he is starting and is busy covering for the gung-ho style of "That's just who we are, mate" football, he will continue to score well and maybe keep out Maddison.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 1-2 FAB to get him.
Djed Spence (Ros 15%)
Prospects: We finish off with another Spurs player, namely the prodigal son, Spence, who looked like he had been frozen out of the club only to return during the current defensive crisis to put in decent performances and stake a claim for a long-term starting spot. Unfortunately, Spurs are currently very bad at keeping goals out of their own net, so their defenders are usually avoidable, but Spence's attacking threat makes him worth a punt, especially against Everton, who have been poor when going forward.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.
