Waiver Wire Gameweek 23

Here we outline our Fantasy EPL Waiver Wire Gameweek 23 targets that have 40% rostered or below on Fantrax. These players should perform well over the upcoming period!

Jan-Paul van Hecke (Ros 36%)

Prospects: After keeping back-to-back clean sheets versus West Ham (A) and Wolves (H), Brighton conceded 4 goals to Luton Town on the Hatters' home patch. One of the few positive things about this dire result was van Hecke's ability to score 10.75 ghost FPts. In the Dutchman's previous two games, he managed to score 7 and 12.75 ghost FPts. Given how tough it has been to find dependable DEF assets this season, the Gameweek 23 fixture versus Crystal Palace could not have come at a better time, especially since the Eagles' talismen, Olise and Eze, were substituted due to potential injuries. If this is the case, there's a good chance Crystal Palace could struggle to score. It should also be noted that our Fixture Difficulty Tracker suggests that Brighton DEFs have the best ranked fixture for all defenders this gameweek.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.

Armando Broja (Ros 11%)

Prospects: Fair to say this has been one of the duller January Transfer Windows we've experienced in recent times. However, one deal that got completed in the last few hours was Broja's loan from Chelsea to Fulham. Raul Jimenez was substituted at half-time versus Everton and it was confirmed during the post-match interview that the Mexican FWD sustained a serious hamstring injury that could keep him out for weeks. This could be the perfect opportunity for the young Chelsea FWD to cement his place as the starting striker for Fulham as Muniz and Vinicius have both struggled to make it their own. Fulham FWDs have the 2nd best rated fixture according to our Fixture Difficulty Tracker for Gameweek 23, as they face Burnley at Turf Moor, the team with the worst home form in their last 8 games (1W-1D-6L, 8 goals for, 14 goals against).

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 1-2 FAB to get him.

Daniel Muñoz (Ros 1%)

Prospects: Daniel Muñoz joins his fellow Colombian Jefferson Lerma at Crystal Palace after signing from Genk on a 3-year deal. Muñoz is an international right-back that has 23 caps to his name, along with a Belgian cup and a semi-final run in the 2021 Copa America. However, it is Muñoz's attacking potential which is the most attractive feature of his profile as a Fantrax asset. During the 2022/23 season, the Colombian DEF registered 8 goals and 5 assists in 36 appearances whereas in the first half of the current 2023/24 season, Muñoz scored 5 goals and had 1 assist in 16 appearances. We haven't had an attacking fullback from Crystal Palace since the days of Patrick van Aanholt, a player who was well known for his attacking qualities. If you need a DEF with some possible upside, then I'd risk spending a few FAB on him, even if he doesn't get the start in Gameweek 23 versus Brighton.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.

Giovanni Reyna (Ros 0%)

Prospects: The young American attacking MID has finally graced us with his presence in the Premier League after signing on loan for Nottingham Forest, from Borussia Dortmund. Reyna once considered one of the best young players in the world, with standout characteristics such as playmaking and dribbling, which is backed by the fact that in 2020, he became the youngest player in the Bundesliga to create a hat-trick of assists. Reyna also has a history of scoring goals, where he registered 13 goals in 90 appearances for Borussia Dortmund and 7 goals in 24 appearances for the US Men's National team. However, injuries have always been the bane of Reyna's existence as the American has only started once in the current 2023/24 Bundesliga season (0 attacking returns) and 4 times during the 2022/23 season (7 goals and 2 assists). There is definite risk to punting on Reyna but the upside could be worth it for a manager needing a potential MID-2/3 gem to help rejuvenate the final stretch of their season. Whether he gets substantial minutes is the big question. He'll need to fight off those nagging injuries not to mention attacking competition in (most likely) Dominguez and Hudson-Odoi.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.

Morgan Rogers (Ros 0%)

Prospects: The young English FWD signed for Aston Villa from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee but comes into the Premier League in some good form. Rogers already has 7 goals and 8 assists to his name for the 2023/24 campaign, which includes 19 starts across 2 competitions, most recently scoring against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final. Rogers might be a better pick for Dynasty leagues as the 21-year-old FWD still has to compete for a starting spot versus the likes of Diaby, Bailey, TIelemans, and potentially Jacob Ramsey. However, if Rogers gets the unexpected start versus Sheffield United in Gameweek 23, then I would definitely risk rolling him out against the worst team in the league.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.
