Gameweek 29 Ghost Point Hunters: Fantrax EPL

We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 29 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!

Gameweek 29 Ghost Point Hunters

The first kickoff hasn't even happened yet and we're already sick of the blank GW. But we trudge on. Here are a few more BGW punts (remember, we prepared you weeks ago for this moment). We've earmarked Mavropanos, Fofana, & Kudus for the big board. Meanwhile, the Honorable Mention includes folks who do not play in BGW29 (the audacity): Iwobi, Hamer, Mitchell, & Garner. And we revert back to the blankpocalypse focus for the Dr. Peter Venkman Award, which sadly goes to one Wilson Odobert. Life comes at you fast.

Konstantinos Mavropanos

Position: Defender

Team: West Ham United

Rostered: 17%

Ghost Points Per Start: 8.4

Ghost Points Last GW: 14

Prospects: Don't be fooled by looking at his lowly 5 FPts in GW28, Mavropanos had a monster ghosting performance, racking up 1 Key Pass, 2 Tackles Won, 1 Interception, 4 Clearances, 2 Blocked Shots, & 6 Aerials. An unfortunate own goal and a couple of goals against significantly neutered his FPts but the signs are promising for the big Greek defender who has earned his place in Moyes' preferred XI. While clean sheets have been hard to come by for West Ham, you can bank on Mavrapanos being kept busy with defensive actions, which gives him a very nice floor of 8.4 gPPS, putting him in the top 20 for DEFs. Particularly in such a huge BGW where clean sheets look unlikely everywhere, Mavrapanos could be a shrewd pickup.

Verdict: Pick him up!

David Fofana

Position: Forward

Team: Burnley

Rostered: 44%

Ghost Points Per Start: 5.8

Ghost Points Last GW: 12.5

Prospects: The Chelsea loanee has certainly made an impression at Turf Moor since his arrival in the January transfer window. He will be remembered for an absolute thunderbolt of a goal last time out against West Ham, but it was his ghosts that have got us excited at GPH HQ. Fofana really put in a shift with his scary scores stemming from 2 Shots on Target, 2 Tackles Won, 5 Successful Dribbles, 1 Blocked Shot & 3 Aerials. While you won't expect this every week, given he has 5.8 gPPS, however, 5 starts is a pretty limited sample size and these types of performances gives us hope that he can pop off in any given match, with those dribbling numbers looking particularly tasty. Options are severely limited in the forward department this gameweek and with his opponent, Brentford not exactly impressing defensively, the Ivorian is a must pick-up.

Verdict: Pick him up!

Mohammed Kudus

Position: Midfielder

Team: West Ham United

Rostered: 83%

Ghost Points Per Start: 8.9

Ghost Points Last GW: 12.5

Prospects: Kudus' ghosting numbers are a sight to behold, 8.9 gPPS puts him in the top 10 for MIDs and his dribble numbers are absurd at 4.3 CoS/90. If you haven't already seen it, go check out his goal against Freiburg where he takes on half the team with a mazy dribble from his own half, mesmerising stuff! While he didn't get an attacking return last time out against Burnley, he was a creative force, putting up 2 Key Passes, 1 Tackle Won, 2 Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs), & 6 Successful Dribbles. With such a great floor of ghosties, the Ghanaian will be one of the most coveted assets for this gameweek.

Verdict: It would admittedly be a tough sell, as he's projected to have one of the highest scores in this blank GW, but if you're desperate for the win, you would have to open with: Eze + a sweetener.

Honorable Mention

  • Alex Iwobi (Fulham MID; 19 ghosts):

  • Gustavo Hamer (Sheffield United MID; 18 ghosts):

  • Tyrick Mitchell (Crystal Palace DEF; 14.25 ghosts):

  • James Garner (Everton MID; 13 ghosts):

Category Killers:

  • Key Passes: Alex Iwobi (7)

  • Successful Dribbles: Mohammed Kudus (6)

  • Aerials: Oliver McBurnie (8)

  • Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs): Jacob Murphy (4)

  • Tackles Won: Marc Cucurella (5)

  • Interceptions: Moises Caicedo (5)

Dr. Peter Venkman Award:

Wilson Odobert (Burnley FWD; 1.5 ghosts): While he is not an amazing ghoster at 6.1 gPPS, Odobert can have his moments, given how prone he is to inconsistency. Fresh off 14 ghosties v Bournemouth, he then puts up just 1 Key Pass and 1 Aerial, dented by 2 dispossessions v West Ham. However, his inconsistency appears quite predictable, the Frenchman seems to struggles vs tough opponents, but thrives against the weaker ones, so don't give up on him for this blank GW as he could have some fun vs Brentford.
