Waiver Wire Gameweek 3

Here we outline our Fantasy EPL Gameweek 3 Waiver Wire targets that are 40% rostered (Ros) or below on Fantrax. These players should perform well over the upcoming period!

Douglas Luiz (Ros 7%)

Prospects: The former Villa midfielder and Brazilian international has made his return to the Premier League, joining Forest, after an underwhelming year with Italian side Juventus. The season before last, Luiz posted fantastic numbers that saw him finish 38th overall in player rankings. He had 35 starts, 10 PPS/7gPPS (6.9 PPS without sets) to go along with his 9 goals/5 assists. (PPS = Points per start and gPPS = Ghost points per start). He also took 50% of of his former team Aston Villa's set pieces. He joins a Forest side which, with an increased number of games due to Europa League participation, have been scrambling to add depth as the window comes to a close. I expect him to start alongside Anderson in the double pivot for Forest, but he'll need some sets to provide weekly value.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 5-10 FAB to get him.

Ethan Nwaneri (Ros 30%)

Prospects: The 18-year-old star in the making came on this past weekend, replacing Martin Ødegaard in the 38th minute, and delivered a solid performance through the remainder of Arsenal’s 5–0 win over Leeds. It was a shame he couldn’t register a goal contribution in the rout. Early reports suggest that the injuries to Saka and Ødegaard are not as severe as first feared. That said, next week’s trip to Anfield may come too soon for their returns, meaning Nwaneri is a strong candidate to start either out wide or in midfield, depending on whether Eze makes his debut. Holding through to the home fixture against Forest after the international break looks appealing, particularly in deeper bench leagues where you can afford the stash. Do keep in mind Arsenal face City and then Newcastle after Forest, which could be tough fixtures for the young Gunner even if he sees the starts. Keep an eye on the latest injury news and place your claim accordingly.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 4-5 FAB to get him. If the injuries to Saka and Ødegaard are longer term, I'd go as high as 8-12.

Tyrone Mings (Ros 13%)

Prospects: Mings put up a solid scoreline in Villa’s 1–0 loss away to Brentford, racking up 13 points across the full 90 minutes. Most of that production came from his dominance in the air, winning 8 aerial duels. While Mings hasn’t historically been the most reliable week-to-week scorer, there’s reason for optimism in the short term. Villa have conceded just one goal across their first two fixtures and now face a favorable run: Palace (H), Everton (A), Sunderland (A), Fulham (H), and Burnley (H). Cash is another strong option in this defense, though he’s already rostered in over 40% of leagues.

Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.
