We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 33 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!
This Ghost Point Hunters article is based on the Fantrax Scoring System. Check out our Ghost Point Tracker page for the full list of Fantasy EPL players and their respective Ghost Point capabilities!
Gameweek 33 Ghost Point Hunters
We move. The business end of the season is getting more and more business-like. With fewer and fewer GWs left, it's important to be ruthless and focused on each GW, unless you have playoffs. Anyway, we're going heavy on DGW34 this week with Oliver Arblaster (yes, I know, he does sound made up), Ashley Young (painful to highlight him but it's our job), & Nelson Semedo (God love him). Honorable Mention includes a South American & Blighty fusion of Diaz, Guimaraes, McBurnie, & Morris. And the Dr. Peter Venkman Award goes to none other than Jacob Murphy, which shouldn't surprise anyone, even/especially Jacob himself.
Oliver Arblaster
Position: Midfielder
Team: Sheffield United
Rostered: 0%
Ghost Points Per Start: N/A (not enough starts)
Ghost Points Last GW: 15
Prospects: Rarely does someone come along with a name like this - Oliver Arblaster. Willy Smallbone, eat your heart out. The 19 year old lad, with only four senior appearances, has broken into the Sheffield United engine room and is turning heads. Arblaster certainly got our attention over the weekend with a gang of ghosties. The youngster dropped a sumptuous 15 scary scores from the following: 5 Key Passes, 2 Tackles Won, 2 Interceptions, 2 Clearances, 2 Successful Dribbles, & 1 Aerial.
Before we run away with ourselves, yes, it could be an aberration. He's quite young, is in a very bad team, and this ghosting masterclass came against lowly Chelsea at home. However, Arblaster is worth the punt anyway. He should keep his spot and score at least 5-6 per GW, and Sheffield United have a nice run of fixtures. The Blades have a date with struggling Brentford and then a tasty DGW against Burnley and Man United. Believe in something.
Verdict: Pick him up!
Ashley Young
Position: Defender
Team: Everton
Rostered: 13%
Ghost Points Per Start: 6.4
Ghost Points Last GW: 11.25
Prospects: Alright, let's get this over with. Raise your hand if Ashley Young has hurt you. We thought so. Well, here's yet another chance to get hurt again. Back with a new lease of life on the right wing of the Everton attack - the club has officially hit rock bottom - Young is scoring again. Fresh off a 13.5 point display (with an assist and a goal conceded it must be said), he pieced together a double digit ghosting display from 3 Key Passes, 2 Tackles Won, 1 Accurate Cross Not a Corner (ACNC), 1 Interception, 1 Clearance, & 1 Aerial. Young can very easily turn back into a pumpkin like he always does but the short term looks punt-worthy. They have Chelsea, who we know love to give up points to the opposition, and then a DGW v Forest & Liverpool at home. Famous last words.
Verdict: Pick him up!
Nelson Semedo
Position: Defender
Team: Wolves
Rostered: 45%
Ghost Points Per Start: 7
Ghost Points Last GW: 13.25
Prospects: This guy is such a fickle mistress. He's been in this space so many times over the years - many false dawns ago. But here we are. Nelson Semedo is impossible to predict. His 7 GPPS is a perfect encapsulation of who he is as a fantasy player - he can drop 14 or 5 ghosts in a given week. Over the past 3 games, he posted the following amount of ghosts: 5.5, 10, & 13.25. Most recently v West Ham, Semedo delivered that lovely 13.25 haul from 4 Key Passes, 2 Tackles Won, 1 Accurate Cross Not a Corner (ACNC), 1 Interception, 3 Clearances, & 1 Successful Dribble. He's still just a break glass in case of emergency streamer but with these ghosts he is a tempting option for DGW34.
Verdict: Pick him up!
Honorable Mention
Luis Diaz (Liverpool FWD; 12.5 ghosts): After a relatively slow start to the season, the kid from La Guajira has been on smoke. And he's largely been doing it the right way - pairing ghosts with attacking returns. Can he keep this up and will the return of Jota dent his playing time?
Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle United MID; 12 ghosts): Bruno G has also been on smoke of late - going double digits in 7 of his last 9 starts. He has become the linchpin for a Magpie side ravaged with injuries. He'll be nice to have in the run in.
Oliver McBurnie (Sheffield United FWD; 9 ghosts): He needs no introduction, the aerial king. Ole Oli keeps ghosting and has maintained his eye for goal. He'll be a nice FWD3 ROS and should put up tasty numbers in DGW34.
Carlton Morris (Luton Town FWD; 9 ghosts): The injury-induced absence of Adebayo has been a call to arms for Morris, who has stepped up. He'll also be a nice FWD3 ROS and critical to Luton's survival hopes.
Category Killers:
Key Passes: Oliver Arblaster (5)
Successful Dribbles: Luis Diaz (6)
Aerials: Oliver McBurnie (12)
Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs): John McGinn (4)
Tackles Won: Joao Gomes (6)
Interceptions: Tosin Adarabioyo (5)
Dr. Peter Venkman Award:
Jacob Murphy (Newcastle United MID; 0 ghosts): Oh, Jacob Murphy, we forgot how vehemently anti-ghost you really are. And then you go ahead & drop a performance like that. Bravo. The Newcastle midfielder certainly has upside - he can get you a brace when you seemingly least expect it. But Murphy is as boom or bust as one can get. You read that correctly - he racked up ZERO ghosties this past GW in a 60+ minute cameo v Fulham, in which most of his colleagues scored fairly well. He literally did nothing. This is par for the course, though, for Murphy. His 5.3 gpps does not get our ghosting pulses racing. Again, he's a decent upside punt. But regarding ghosts, he is incorrigible - just know what you're getting into and prepare accordingly.
