Gameweek 34 Ghost Point Hunters: Fantrax EPL

We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 34 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!

Michail Antonio

Gameweek 34 Ghost Point Hunters

We've made it to GW34 - one of the final few Double Gameweeks - with Arsenal, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Everton, Liverpool, Sheffield United, & Wolves all going twice this week. But nevermind that, we do what we want around here. So we're going with Mateo Kovacic, Danilo, & Tyrick Mitchell on the big board. Honorable Mention features Anthony Gordon, Eberechi Eze, Dean Henderson, & Lucas Digne. And the Dr. Peter Venkman Award is postmarked to the domicile of Michail Antonio. Old habits die hard.

Mateo Kovacic

Position: Midfielder

Team: Manchester City

Rostered: 38%

Ghost Points Per Start: 4.1 (prior to this week)

Ghost Points Last GW: 13.5

Prospects: The Croatian got a relatively surprise start this past GW and he delivered the goods and, more importantly for our purposes, the ghosts. Kovacic dropped over a dozen ghosties, stemming from 4 Key Passes, 1 Shot on Target, 4 Tackles Won, 1 Successful Dribble, & 1 Aerial. As one can see from the lowly GPPS, this is a fairly uncharacteristic haul from Kovacic. We still don't trust him but this cameo proves he can technically do a job when needed. So when he gets a rare start - he should get at least one more ROS given the plethora of games - take a punt if you need waiver wire upside.

Verdict: Leave him on the wire but think about picking him up next time he starts and you're in a pinch.

Danilo

Position: Midfielder

Team: Nottingham Forest

Rostered: 10%

Ghost Points Per Start: 5.3

Ghost Points Last GW: 13

Prospects: In keeping with the theme of potential aberrations, Danilo put in quite a shift in GW33. He posted 13 scary scores from both attacking and defensive categories: 3 Key Passes, 3 Shots on Target, 1 Tackle Won, & 2 Interceptions. He is a fickle mistress. He can randomly haul but his averages are pretty mediocre. Danilo is in a similar category - stream if you're in a pinch and could use a bit of fortune.

Verdict: Decent streamer when needed.

Tyrick Mitchell

Position: Defender

Team: Crystal Palace

Rostered: 35%

Ghost Points Per Start: 5.5

Ghost Points Last GW: 9.25

Prospects: Continuing to beat a dead horse, we have yet another player who usually doesn't ghost all that well. He has had his moments, but the supernatural hasn't been his thing. Tyrick Mitchell showed some promise at Anfield, however, pairing an assist and a clean sheet with some hard fought ghosts. He edged close to double digits in the ghosting department from 1 Tackle Won, 1 Accurate Cross Not a Corner (ACNC), 5 Clearances, 2 Successful Dribbles, 1 Blocked Shot, & 3 Aerials. Mitchell, like many of the rest of his teammates, seems to be enjoying his new lease on life under manager Oliver Glassner. Outside of heavy losses v Man City & Spuds, he has scored fairly well. With an upcoming DGW v West Ham & Newcastle at home, Mitchell is a must stream if you can pick him up.

Verdict: Pick him up for the double!

Honorable Mention

  • Anthony Gordon (Newcastle United MID; 18 ghosts): The Geordie Cole Palmer went off over the weekend, bagging a goal, 2 assists, and a gang of ghosties. His 6 GPPS intimates that this is an aberration - it was against leaky Spuds after all - but he is definitely one to target due to his ability to haul and the upcoming schedule, which includes a DGW in GW37.

  • Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace MID; 13.5 ghosts): The Palace midfielder tends to take a backseat when his colleague Olise is also on the pitch but it was Eze who did the ghosting business at Anfield. Let's see if this continues in the double this GW.

  • Dean Henderson (Crystal Palace GK; 10.5 ghosts): Hendo made some key saves and somehow kept a cleansheet. We hope you got him in a few weeks ago in anticipation of this DGW. The masterclass at Anfield was a nice bonus.

  • Lucas Digne (Aston Villa DEF; 9.25 ghosts): The Villa LB spot last season was a fountain of points; this season, outside of the early GWs, not so much. Both Digne & Moreno have taken turns putting in stinkers - so much so that they've been largely dropped in competitive leagues. Digne decided to put in his best performance in months in a surprising matchup away at Arsenal. We're not fully buying back in but Bournemouth at home this weekend is tempting.

Category Killers:

  • Key Passes: Anthony Gordon (8)

  • Successful Dribbles: Jeremy Doku (6)

  • Aerials: Oliver McBurnie (7)

  • Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs): Cody Gakpo (4)

  • Tackles Won: Joao Palhinha (5)

  • Interceptions: Ola Aina (4)

Dr. Peter Venkman Award:

Michail Antonio (West Ham United MID; 2 ghosts): We have very fond memories of Michail Antonio over the years. One performance sticks out in particular. We traded out Trent Alexander Arnold - an absolute monster that 2019/2020 season - for Antonio given that TAA & Liverpool were basically on the beach as the title was all but sewn up. His first score thereafter was a casual 60+ pointer in a 4 goal display v Norwich City. Lockdown Antonio was a colossus. Those days are long gone, unfortunately. He has since dealt with injuries and poor form. He has certainly shown glimpses of his former self but he hasn't been able to replicate any consistency. This season, Antonio has only mustered 16 starts and 4 goals. And his ghosts have been appalling at a clip of 4.3 GPPS. He was never a huge ghoster but this is poor. It is thus no surprise that he has failed to eclipse 3.5 points in his last 3 cameos. Most recently, he only salvaged a pair of ghosts v Fulham. He secured1 Clearance & 2 Aerials to go along with 2 dispossessions. We wish Antonio nothing but the best, thanks for the memories, but he's dead to us until he regains some form.
