23/24 Tottenham Hotspur Player Performance
Let's review how Spurs players fared in 23/24, with an emphasis on their Draft Premier League fantasy assets. We'll also discuss any pertinent info regarding rotation, managerial tactics, and injuries below. What can we learn from their performance in the last campaign?

It's no real surprise to see Son at the top of this list with an impressive 13.6 points per start. He finished as a top 10 overall player, and there's no reason he can't continue this into next season. Ange had Son playing two different positions throughout the season (LW and ST). You can see the comparison in the chart below, but his ghost point production was slightly better in the wing role, but his overall PPS better up top. This should show us that no matter where Son is played he will be a reliable fantasy asset. In more of a forward role his attacking returns would be higher, but his role will be heavily dependent on either the future of Richarlison or the addition of a proper starting striker.
All eyes were on Maddison's move to Spurs, and his 12.9 PPS don't tell the whole story, more on that later. The likes of Kulusevski and Porro turned out to be solid assets, but Kulusevski was unfortunately very inconsistent in the final stages of the season. The rest of the attackers in Johnson, Richarlison, and Werner all had their moments in the spotlight, but the latter two especially struggled to string together consistent starts.
Porro aside, the Spurs defence was pretty disappointing. I had high hopes for Romero, but aside from a few special outings he remained a DEF3 at best. Aside from Maddison this table shows you the lack of fantasy production in the Spurs midfield group. Sarr and Bissouma were the two with the most starts and asides from Bissouma's early season impressive fantasy run both were droppable all season.
23/24 Breakout Player
Pedro Porro
Position: Defender
23/24 Points: 325.5 (3rd best DEF)
23/24 Points Per Start: 9.3 (35 starts)
Pedro Porro had himself an incredible season, establishing himself as an elite fantasy defender and a key part of this Spurs side going forward. For some reason there were questions entering the season about whether it would be Royal or Porro to win the RB/RWB role but in hindsight there was surely only 1 correct answer. Porro's only downfall was being part of Spurs inconsistent defence. He was incredible and truly stepped up as a creative focal point when Maddison was out injured. Porro managed 3 goals and 8 assists from 51 key passes, which is 4th among all defenders. On top of his attacking output he was able to fill up the stat sheet very nicely with defensive stats from 63 tackles won and 34 interceptions. Porro took his fair share of set pieces and was always a threat on the attack. The way Ange had Spurs playing, Porro was always very high up on the pitch to be involved in key parts of the attack, or taking on shots from outside the 18 yard box whenever he saw the chance. Spurs had a poor season from a defensive point of view, but Porro was still their shining star.
23/24 Fantasy Flop
Destiny Udogie
Position: Defender
23/24 Points: 160.75 (41st best DEF)
23/24 Points Per Start: 5.7 (28 starts)
Udogie was supposed to be the next Danny Rose for Spurs but unfortunately this season didn't pan out as planned. Udogie was unable to build on his very strong start to the season both from a fantasy and in real life perspective. In his first four games he cracked double digits in three of them. As well, between December 7 to February 3 he managed 8 or more points in half of these games. Outside of these "spells" he was very poor. In fact 11 of his 28 starts saw him under 2 points (most of the time negatives). Showing constant lapses in judgement and inconsistency in his play he can be labeled as a flop...for now. We did see glimpses of the talent Spurs fans and Ange believe in, but the key will be having him stay consistent. His ghost points of 6.7 per start show some hope that he can fill out the stat sheet but is still miles off the "next Danny Rose". Spurs as a whole suffered in defence, and his season ending injury unfortunately came at a bad time for Spurs. He will more than likely be their starting LB next season, despite Van De Ven proving he can be great option there, but will need to improve his consistency to be a top EPL wingback and the fantasy asset managers are hoping for.
Injury Impact
The two biggest injury losses for Spurs came in the form of Maddison and Van de Ven. Both players were crucial in the way Ange set up his team, yet both missed 10+ games this season. Their injuries were felt among Spurs with no true creative replacement for Maddison and a rotation of different CBs unable to fill the void of Van de Ven. When Maddison returned from his long injury he was a shadow of his early season self on the pitch and in fantasy. To start the season Maddison managed 3 goals and 6 assists in just 11 games vs. 1G and 5A in his final 16 games. He had a rough patch where Ange showed he wasn't afraid to bench him but managed to finish the season with 3 double digit outings. Maddison is always in contention to be a top fantasy asset but his finish to the season makes me wary about him being a first rounder.
Udogie's season ending injury also contributed to the defensive woes Spurs had this season, with Ange hoping to have his first choice backline for most of the season in the 24/25 campaign. Bentancur is often a forgotten name, but we can't forget he only started 13 games all season which would have impacted the Spurs midfield. The Spurs midfield is already very inconsistent and losing arguably their best CM for most of the season didn't help. We all know Spurs entered the season missing their star tailsman Harry Kane, so the on/off injuries for Richarlison which saw him start just 18 games didn't help matters. Solomon also faced a season ending injury after starting to show he could offer solid attacking promise from the wing either in a starting role or off the bench. Richarlison and Son were expected to carry the burden without their striker, but injuries and poor form contributed to Richarlison only getting 11 goals. While Son managed to bag 17 himself Spurs will be needing one of them to get to at least 20+ or find a Kane replacement ASAP.
Spurs Overall Team Performance
Spurs had a great start to the season under Ange, but tapered off as the season progressed. They still finished in 5th place which can be considered a solid start in Ange's first season especially after the departure of Kane and the injury to two of his biggest signings. I do expect Spurs to kick on from this and compete for a top 4 position next season. Their attack was very solid scoring 74 goals, but their defence left a lot to be desired conceding 61. Injuries and some sloppy errors were definitely the leading cause of the poor defence. I do expect the Spurs defence to improve and wouldn't be surprised to see a new singing or two to come in to add some more defensive cover in the midfield, and some better rotational options for this backline.
