Newcastle United Best Fantasy Players

As noted above, these are the Best Newcastle United Players for the Fantrax Fantasy EPL platform. We analyze the Magpies' top three prospects ahead of the new season, with an estimated draft pick for each player.

Allan Saint-Maximin

Position: Midfielder

20/21 Points: 242.5

20/21 Points Per Start: 11.1

Recommended Draft Pick: 27-25 (3rd round in a 12 team league)

Overview: One of the most explosive players in the Premier League, a joy to watch, unfortunately, injury-prone and stuck on a defensive-minded Newcastle team.

The electric Frenchman is clearly a cut above the rest at Newcastle, but unfortunately he hasn't been able to start more than 23 games in either of his 2 seasons at the club. This may be part of the reason why he is still playing for Newcastle. Whenever he plays, though, he is the spark in the Newcastle attack. Everything moves through him, which is reflected well in his fantasy point output. His WAR rank puts him a good 20 places ahead of his overall rank for last season, meaning he is clearly an upside play who you might not be able to run out week-in week-out. His 3rd round grade is mainly due to his explosive style (both in real life and for Fantrax points) and the extreme lack of high ceiling midfielders. If he falls to you anywhere after the third round, he may prove to be the steal of the draft.

Callum Wilson

Position: Forward

20/21 Points: 261.5

20/21 Points Per Start: 11.2

Recommended Draft Pick: 57-65 (5th - 6th round in a 12 team league)

Overview: His team's top scorer with 12 goals despite only starting 23 games. The epitome of a goal dependent striker, but when he scores, he gets great points.

Wilson came to Newcastle from a relegated Bournemouth team where he had been banging in goals for fun in between his long and grueling injury spells. He continued this trend on Tyneside by quickly establishing himself as the number one striker. His ghost points per 90 is only 5.3 which is pretty bad, but you are not really expecting a 6th rounder to light the world on fire. He is almost guaranteed to come up with a purple patch that will see him score most of his goals in a 7-10 week period. Stay for that ride, trade him out before he gets injured again.

Karl Darlow

Position: Goalkeeper

20/21 Points: 164.5

20/21 Points Per Start: 6.6

Recommended Draft Pick: Round 14 and onwards

Overview: At a certain point last season, when deputising for Dubravka, there was talk of Darlow being close to the England squad. He was that good.

Editor's Note: Since the writing of this segment Karl Darlow produced a positive COVID test and is observing COVID protocol. His value is obviously dependent on his recovery.

Darlow will almost certainly start between the posts for Newcastle as Dubravka picked up a metatarsal injury so is unavailable. With the new and improved Default Scoring taking goalkeepers up a level, it is becoming increasingly likely that it will be worth drafting a goalkeeper "early" from this season on. Darlow's 88 saves puts him 9th overall in that category, despite only playing 25 games last season. Newcastle only collected 4 clean sheets with Darlow in goal, so if they can improve on getting a few more clean sheets, he could be one of those elite goalkeepers you want to get early. The ghost points are definitely there.
