Fantasy Forecast
Past is prelude, as they say. So, turning to the 24/25 season, we've got Brentford player projections, key players to keep an eye on, players we're staying away from, question marks surrounding the club at this moment, an analysis of Bees' early-season fixtures, and our predicted starting lineup.
24/25 Player Projections
Below, you'll find our season projections for Brentford fantasy assets. Our projections are created using a number of contributing factors such as historical performances, expected team strength, betting odds and more. ProjPPS (Points Per Start) and ProjFPts (Projected Total Points) refer to Fantrax Default Scoring.
As the main takeaway from our Brentford Flashback, the Bees had a horrid season last year when it came to injuries. Coupled with Toney's half-season suspension, essentially we are looking at a full reset for their fantasy prospects from last season. There are a few interesting takeaways from last season that we will dive into.
Wissa's consistency in scoring and general play when Toney, Mbeumo, and all others were absent. He is still a wildcard and considered not much more than a capable backup, but the option to rely on him in a time of need is now a more pronounced one.
Next, the first-choice full-backs' impressive performances before their season-ending injuries. It is a shame we haven't witnessed more from Hickey and Henry and even more sad that they are still not back in first-team training at the time of writing, but they both should be kept an eye on as they integrate back into the first team.
Lastly, Pinnock's perceived dip in form prior to his injury caused alarm bells to ring all around Draft Fantasy land. The Jamaican CB re-captured his form in his brief return from injury at the end of the season to give fantasy believers some hope.
Players to Watch
We've highlighted some Brentford players that we're keeping an eye on. The players mentioned below may be sleepers. They may be up-and-coming youngsters. They may be vying for a spot in the XI. Whatever the case, we'll tell you why we're watching these particular assets in EPL Draft Fantasy this year.
Kevin Schade
Position: MID
Recommended Draft Pick: around 120 (12 Team League: Round 10)
Analysis: Kevin Schade came in with huge potential at the halfway point of the 22/23 season after the Bees supposedly fought off competition from top Champions League clubs. He showed glimpses of his talent in his first season but last year was supposed to be the year he would kick on, but a massive injury ruled him out of the Starting XI for effectively all season. He only managed three starts last year due to injury, but managed to score 15 plus points in two of them.
Brentford's club model relies on being able to buy low on emerging assets, developing them and giving them exposure and then selling them on for profit, so even if solely for that reason, I expect Schade to get a good run in the first team. Getting him post round 10 should be very doable (current ADP is north of 200) even in leagues with active managers.
Ivan Toney
Position: FWD
Points Per Start in 23/24: 10.2 (16 starts)
Recommended Draft Pick: 30-35 (12 Team League: Round 3)
Analysis: There is a ton of uncertainty around ∫. Pre-suspension, he was flying high and locked in for a premium transfer of around 80M. Fast forward a year and a half, and even after declaring his intentions to leave and proper centre forwards being a commodity there doesn't seem to be any movement in his transfer away. There is still a month left from the transfer window and I am sure everyone involved, including Brentford are working on a solution. His draft stock is clearly affected by this speculation. My argument for him being one to watch hinges on the belief that all available options for his potential move actually have him scoring closer to his 22-23 season's points total than anything close to where a player picked 30th should be expected to score. That season he ended up being the 3rd best scoring forward, and had a PPS of 12.5 in his 33 starts.
There are really only two options Toney has for this season. He stays at Brentford and they make one final push to sell him in January to not lose him for free, or he moves in the final weeks of the window to another EPL team. Now out of all the EPL teams there are very few where he is not an every week starter, and has every chance to improve on that glorious 22-23 season. Getting him for either situation at picks 30-35 seems to me like a steal, especially when he will likely provide FWD1 value. The only issue that might have made option one a bit less appealing is if new signing Igor Thiago hadn't gotten injured. One could argue that even if he stayed they would have preferred the more 'sellable' asset, but alas, the new signing is out with a meniscus injury for likely 3 months. Smooth Sailing for Ivan's fantasy managers.
Players to Avoid
It's not all sunshine and rainbows at the Gtech. At least, not as far as Draft Fantasy Football is concerned. Below, we will also highlight some fantasy assets that we're not so thrilled about. These are the Brentford players you might want to avoid come draft day.
Mathias Jensen
Position: MID
Points Per Start in 23/24: 8.7 (27 starts)
Recommended Draft Pick: 135 - 140 (12 Team League: Round 12)
Analysis: We were expecting great things from Jensen last season after he managed to put in a solid second season in the top flight successfully replacing Eriksen as the main set-piece threat with a PPS of 8.3 back in 22-23. While he did improve his PPS slightly, he truly didn't kick on as we would have hoped as a proper Eriksen replacement. He started 10 games less and only managed 6.7 gPPS. His set piece dominance whittled down to only taking 42% of the sets too.
Without wanting to sound repetitive about the Bees' business structure, Jensen looks like a great squad player, but not one they could flip for a profit. Whether it is Damsgaard, Yarmolyuk, or a new signing, someone will have more marketability that needs more exposure, so I am expecting Jensen's regression to continue further.
All Other Midfielders
Position: MID
Recommended Draft Pick: DND
Analysis: The Brentford midfield is not an exciting one other than winger Schade. All the centre midfielders are capable of decent days out on occasion, we have seen Norgaard, Yarmolyuk, Onyeka, Damsgaard, and Janelt have decent games or even purple patches, but the incessant (and successful) use of the wingers to create attacking opportunities makes all of the central midfielder stay firmly in the Do Not Draft category. None of those players are projected to score above 8 PPS. Avoid. If you are inclined to give them a chance, keep an eye on Yunus Konak, signed from Sivasspor who has been featuring a lot in pre-season and looks talented.
Question Marks
Not everything is crystal clear and predictable at Brentford. We've highlighted some questions surrounding the Bees that we’re grappling with this preseason. We’ll try to note whether or not (and how much) these questions are affecting our perceptions of Brentford's fantasy assets.
Who else comes in?
Other than the now injured club record singing who was supposed to replace Toney, Igor Thiago, Brentford have not brought in any new senior players. With how last season went for results and injuries, it is clear that both quality depth and quality players to push into the XI are still needed in the next few weeks. With rumours rife, as always, there is still a lot that can change for player values at the Bees. Players rumoured to be of interest: Alfie Doughty, Jobe Bellingham.
Early-Season Fixture Difficulty
The way that teams come out the gate has big implications in EPL Draft. A red-hot start creates red-hot trade targets. A dismal start means plummeting player values and losses for your fantasy team. Check out our thoughts on Brentford's early-season fixtures and our analysis of the fantasy implications they will have.
The Bees are facing 2 heavy hitters in the first 5 when they travel to Anfield and the Etihad and they top it off away at Spurs in GW5. It is quite a brutal schedule, so there is not much wiggle room or great value to be drafted late.
I expect Toney, Mbeumo, Schade, Wissa, and Pinnock to be drafted, possibly Jensen, but other than that, streamers will be available post-GW5. I wouldn't knock high-level assets based on this schedule, but keep in mind which of your potential draft targets you are going to bench in GW2 and 4.
24/25 Brentford Predicted Lineup
Based on the information we have now, the below graphic is our best prediction for the eventual long-term Brentford lineup in 24/25. We can't account for any last-minute transfers or injuries, but considering managerial tactics, player form, and availability, this is how we see the Bees XI shaking out.

Here is how the Bees will likely start the season. Stop gaps will be needed for the full-backs, who are still not in full training. Pinnock and Collins will likely start as the 2 CBs, but 3 at the back formations could lead to Mee (once back fully fit). The midfield picks itself and other than the wildcard Konak, and I wouldn't think this changes a whole lot until they sign a new player. Wissa or Schade should start on the left wing if Toney stays, but if he goes, Wissa will be able to operate through the middle, giving Schade and potentially KLP minutes at LW.
