Premier League New Signings Analysis 21/22

We outline each Premier League new signing individually, providing our views on how they will perform this season and a star rating is given based on their upcoming prospects! We use a five-star rating model to rank the new signings; use these hints and tips to help get your Draft Premier League season off to a flyer!

We’ve ranked the prospects based on a star rating, from 1 to 5:

⭐️ = Steer clear

⭐️⭐️ = Wait and see

⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Could be worth a punt

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = Great prospect

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ = The Premier League signing you’ve been waiting for!

Marc Guehi

Position: Center-back (Defender in Fantrax)

Team: Crystal Palace

Signed From: Chelsea for £18m

Prospects: Playing on loan for Swansea last season, Guehi featured in 45 games and was pivotal for Swansea's season success. As Vieira looks to reinvigorate the Crystal Palace side with youth, Guehi is penned in as an assured starting center-back on Day 1. From the reports coming out of the Palace camp, the open, braver style of play may lead to more goals conceded, especially in the early stages of the campaign as the team learns how to build up from the back. Guehi is not worth anything more than a late round flyer pick, and may be better served as a streamer in a soft part of their schedule.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️

Demarai Gray

Position: Winger (Forward in Fantrax)

Team: Everton

Signed From: Bayer Leverkusen for £2m

Prospects: The basement bargain price Everton paid reflects the current mood on the English prospect. Not too long ago, Gray showed sparks wearing Leicester City colors but those appeared to be flashes in the pan. Despite the promising underlying metrics in progressive passes, carries, and dribbles, Gray has not imposed himself with any semblance of consistency. There may be opportunities for Gray to boost his stock under Benitez. Gray's skillset makes him tempting as a late round punt with Everton's attacking spots not cemented.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Bryan Gil

Position: Attacking Winger (Forward in Fantrax)

Team: Tottenham

Signed From: Sevilla for an £25m

Prospects: At 20 years of age, Bryan Gil will be the 20th player signed in the attempt to replace Gareth Bale's dynamism. I kid. But in all serious, this is one prospect that I'm surprised was captured by Tottenham and not one of the other Big 6 clubs for a higher transfer fee. Less than a year ago, Gil was valued at roughly £9m. On loan with Eibar, Gil featured in 26 starts racking up 4 xG and 3.6 xA. Young, featuring for Spain in the Olympics, and new to the Premier League, rolling the dice on this Spanish winger is for only the most patient. Having said that, he passes Murph's eye test with flying colors.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Joachim Andersen

Position: Center-back (Defender in Fantrax)

Team: Crystal Palace

Signed From: Lyon for £22m

Prospects: Do we see the picture starting to take shape for this Palace team yet? I certainly see it. For managers that played last season, Andersen hopefully needs little exposition. The anchor of relegated Fulham's 5-back system, he sadly could not keep them afloat. Andersen generates plenty of counting stats and should be the "alpha" of the two center-backs - commanding the lion's share of defensive actions - as Guehi has the recovery pace to be the last man back.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Tino Livramento

Position: Right Wingback (Defender in Fantrax)

Team: Southampton

Signed From: Chelsea for £5m

Prospects: Well this piece is writing itself! I say that because Livramento is *surprise* another Chelsea Cobham Academy graduate to leave the club this transfer window. Only 18, Livramento is very raw and will not displace Kyle-Walker Peters any time soon. He's a classic purchase for a club known for flipping young prospects back to the EPL giants, and I wouldn't blink twice if I'm writing about him again in two years for a fee of £20-30m or more. Best not to think about him though unless KWP sustains a significant injury.

Rating: ⭐️

Danny Ings

Position: Central Striker (Forward in Fantrax)

Team: Aston Villa

Signed From: Southampton for Undisclosed Fee

Prospects: We almost pushed this article out last weekend, but sometimes procrastination really does pay off kids! While not a signing from another league, I want to use this platform to say my piece - after much discussion across roughly 6 group chats and reading several pieces. Danny Ings at this stage of his career would not move to any club without guarantees of play time. Period. His stock increases simply by being surrounded by the talent the Villa board have accrued this offseason - Emi, Bailey (see below), Traore, Watkins, and El Messi. Bump him up your boards, but don't get carried away.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Leon Bailey

Position: Winger (Forward in Fantrax)

Team: Aston Villa

Signed From: Bayer Leverkusen for £30m

Prospects: There are several questions around this Aston Villa attack aren't there? With Grealish (at the timing of writing this) 99% leaving, there are certainly minutes on the wide flank available for Bailey. Like most mouth-watering winger prospects for fantasy, Bailey is markedly proficient at dribbling and displays great creativity in his passing play. Bailey could slot on either wing, but is likely competing on the right wing with Bertrand Traore. With all the recent disruption at Villa, assess Bailey with cautious (but exciting ((but still cautious))) optimism as he's not guaranteed any starts.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Romelu Lukaku

Position: Central Striker (Forward in Fantrax)

Team: Chelsea

Signed From: Inter Milan for - Wait what hold on hold Murph what?

Prospects: We here at the Draft Society do not have crystal balls that can foresee the future. Nor do we sit at home waiting for news to drop, so that on a dime we can deliver to-the-second content. However, at the time of writing this, there are several credible sources on the Chelsea and the Italy side reporting that Lukaku to Chelsea looks like a "Here We Go!" very soon. So let me arm you with knowledge: I already wrote about Chelsea signing a new striker in my Best Players article a few weeks back. Now that we know it's likely Lukaku, you should pen him into your top 8 players overall - minimum. The beauty of Lukaku is we have years' worth of data supporting how he'll perform. Go see the stats yourself, then add in the fact that Chelsea were 3rd for non-penalty xG and all those attackers are still with the squad.

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
