Fantrax EPL: Gameweek 37 Ghost Point Hunters

We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, successful dribbles, interceptions, accurate crosses, and aerials, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 37 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!

This Gameweek 37 Ghost Point Hunters article is based on the Fantrax Scoring System.

Gameweek 37 Ghost Point Hunters

Squeaky bum time has passed - it's DEFCON 5 time. The rubber has truly hit the road. To help you over the line in these last 2 GWs, here are a few spirits to go with the other spirits you're consuming whilst biting your nails and watching your scores. Thiago Alcantara, Gary Cahill (honorable mention to his teammate Andros Townsend who rolled back the years this GW), and Morgan Gibbs-White all spooked the opposition this past GW. Thiago might be tricky to acquire at this point but the other two should be on your waiver wire. Let's snag this title and join Southampton on the beach.

Thiago Alcantara

Position: Midfielder

Team: Liverpool

Rostered: 79%

Ghost Points GW36: 17

Ghost Points Per 90: 8.7

Next Opponents: Burnley (Away) & Crystal Palace (Home)

Prospects: He has nailed down a MID spot in a team that still has everything to fight for and a great schedule.

Verdict: You would have to trade him in, which can be difficult. Try to offer a FWD3 +1 if you need a ghosty MID.

Thiago, your favorite footballer's favorite footballer. The cerebral maestro. Unfortunately, the seamless passing and string pulling that doesn't directly lead to a goal will often not result in points. He has been underwhelming Fantasy EPL-wise since his transfer from Germany, showing moments of brilliance and then yellow card-laden single digit performances. Thiago seemed to have fallen victim to that "pass before the assist" syndrome. But not lately. In the last few GWs, the diminutive Spaniard has been haunting. This past GW, he dropped 17 ghost points in an omnipresent performance: 5 Key Passes, 1 Shot on Target, 2 Tackles Won, 1 Clearance, 2 Successful Dribbles, and 3 Aerials. Despite his erstwhile inconsistency, Thiago seems to have found his fantasy feet in the Premier League and has two tasty fixtures left. Perform a seance and get him in!

Gary Cahill

Position: Defender

Team: Crystal Palace

Rostered: 6%

Ghost Points GW36: 13.5

Ghost Points Per 90: 6.8

Next Opponents: Arsenal (Home) & Liverpool (Away)

Prospects: Seems to have regained his role as starting CB; two tough matchups but the ghosts are there!

Verdict: Will absolutely be on your waiver wire (unless you're in a league with @draftgenie).

"Didn't Gary Cahill retire?" That may be a common refrain when hearing the aging defender's name. But he has been ghosting out since returning from injury - posting back-to-back double digit ghost point performances. In GW36, despite his team conceding two goals (one of which to Anwar El Messi, which was God's will), he scored a respectable 9.5 points (13.5 ghosts). These stemmed from the following: 3 Key Passes, 6 Clearances, and 6 Aerials. Cahill and Crystal Palace have two seemingly difficult matches left but his spooky scores should insulate him from any conceded goals. If you're in a pinch and need to stream a DEF, Cahill is ready to go.

Morgan Gibbs-White

Position: Midfielder

Team: Wolves

Rostered: 7%

Ghost Points GW36: 11

Ghost Points Per 90: N/A

Next Opponents: Everton (Away) & Manchester United (Home)

Prospects: The Wolves lineup has been somewhat erratic but MGW has received back-to-back starts.

Verdict: Please see above (beware of @draftgenie again).

The youth revolution continues in the Black Country. Wunderkind Morgan Gibbs-White has joined fellow youngster Vitinha in the Wolves midfield. After bagging a goal in the previous GW, Gibbs-White showed he can cross over to the other side in GW 36, delivering 11 ghost points in 72 minutes. Impressive stuff from the hyphenated hero. These came from 4 Key Passes, 1 Tackle Won, and 2 Successful Dribbles. And no dispossessions (take that, Zaha). In short, the notorious MGW has entered "worth a punt status" ROS.
