Fantasy EPL Gameweek 10 Sleepers XI
For this article, we use the percentage rostered calculation from Fantrax and Sleeper. Our only rule is that each player we highlight is rostered in 60% of leagues or fewer at the time of writing. Therefore, there's a good chance some of these players will be free agents in your Draft league! As always, we'll take form, fixtures, projected points, and a healthy dose of intuition into account to make our selections.
Bantah is back! I'll be your guide on the Sleepers XI for the next few gameweeks and given the change, we might as well try something new all together! For the first time this season, we're going to risk a 5-at-the-back strategy. However, before we dig deeper into our picks, let's catch up with how Totti's lads performed in GW10.
In Gameweek 10, we lined up with a 3-5-2 formation. In net, Sels (8) continues to be a reliable asset this season for saves, clean sheets and ultimately points, however, it would be much better if he had registered a double digit score, given he kept the clean sheet. In defence, we had Burgess (7.5), Lacroix (5.75) and Sugawara's off-the-bench-appearance (9). Sugawara's score included the assist for the winning goal for the Saints, and has somewhat saved the backline given the fact that Burgess and Lacroix only saw a single "-2" between the pair. Not great but not the worst. In midfield, the scores are also a bit mixed. Another sub appearance for another Southampton asset, Dibling (1.5), might have been the writing on the wall for him as rosterable asset for the rest of the season. Casemiro (3.25) and Merino (3.5) had similar scores and tough matches as well, so it makes sense why they may not have performed as well as expected. However, on a better note, Lindstrom (12.75) and Ayari (13.5) both scored very well despite the absence of attacking returns. Both assets, if given the start, should be serious considerations as a MID-4/5 option for any roster that needs one! Lastly, we come to FWDs. Yikes! Polar opposite scores for Sarr (10.5) and Summerville (-1). I'd say the latter was very unlucky as he was the sacrificial-half-time-lamb for shoring up the Hammer's defence after Alvarez was sent off. Whereas Sarr has now found some great ghosting form given his teammate Eze has been out with a hamstring injury. In total 74.25 FPts, not the worst, but back to the drawing board I guess!
The Sleepers XI table below includes a full team of Starters, as well as 5 Reserves - high-upside players with some question marks around whether or not they'll start in Gameweek 11. So keep an eye out when lineups are announced and pick them up if you see them starting, especially if you need to fill a spot on your roster. Read below for the rationale behind each of the Starter selections.
Bart Verbruggen (G, Brighton)
If you're like me and own a goalkeeper like Hermansen, who has performed very poorly over the past few gameweeks, then you're probably considering a random GK punt. Although a goalkeeper like Hermansen has outscored Verbruggen (59.75 FPts, 7.47 FP/G) for the season, the Brighton goalkeeper has been one of the in-form options of late. In the past 3 gameweeks he's been the 3rd best scoring GK asset, averaging 13.25 PPG along with a 81% save rate. The Seagulls host an out-of-form Manchester City in GW11 which means that Verbruggen is likely to have lots of shots to save. Our Fixture Difficulty Tracker also has Brighton goalkeepers as the 3rd best fixture to target. So if you fancy the swap, go Verbruggen.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka (D, West Ham)
The Hammers have the 2nd best fixture for defenders this GW, so common sense dictates we grab an asset from their ranks. This could potentially be Lopetegui's final game as the West Ham boss is struggling to find form with his new club. However, it helps that they face a similarly struggling team like the Toffees, who could potentially be missing their talisman McNeil with a suspected knee injury. If that's the case, we struggle to see where the goals will come from for Everton. Therefore, Wan-Bissaka seems a good gamble, especially since the English DEF is ghosting very nicely (9.0 gPPS), the best of his teammates.
Marcos Senesi (D, Bournemouth)
After Bournemouth's impressive win against Manchester City in GW10, managers were scrambling to roster Kerkez given his haul that included both assists for the 2 goals that Bournemouth scored. Although Kerkez is now the Cherries' top scoring DEF asset, Senesi is only 1 point behind and boasts the best PP90 (8.9) when compared to his colleagues. Senesi had 4 goals and 5 assists last season and has yet to register in either category for this season, so there's always a chance he nicks a return against a Brentford team that has conceded the 3rd most goals (20) so far.
Nelson Semedo (D, Wolves)
In GW11, Wolves play one of their biggest games of their season as they take on 19th placed Southampton, who are above them in the table by 1 point. It will come as no surprise that the Saints are the best fixture for opposition defenders to face, so it makes sense to grab one with some potential for attacking returns. Semedo has the 2nd most key passes (5) and is tied for the most ACNCs (2) of all Wolves defenders and has also scored the most FPts (28.75) in the last 3 gameweeks, despite Ait-Nouri registering a goal in the same period. Gary O'Neil switched to a wingback system for the last 3 league games, so Semedo playing further up the pitch could be a great upside option.
Ola Aina (D, Nottingham Forest)
If you told me Nottingham Forest were going to be 3rd in the Premier League after 10 gameweeks, I'd have called you crazy! Yet here we are, as the Tricky Trees have been one of the surprises of the season. Nottingham Forest boast one of the best defences in the league, tied in 2nd for clean sheets (4) with Manchester United and only 1 behind league leaders Liverpool. In GW10, Aina scored his highest tally of the season with 25.75 FPts, including a clean sheet and his first attacking return. It is highly unlikely that he replicates this score anytime soon as Forest have a tough schedule on the horizon. That being said, GW11 might be the last chance for you to benefit from a team in form as the Magpies have been the opposite, having only scored 10 goals this season.
Trevoh Chalobah (D, Crystal Palace)
Since Chalobah's first start in GW7, he is the leading fantasy scoring asset from Crystal Palace, having registered 54.25 FPts, at a rate of 13.6 FP/G. This seems very unsustainable given he's a central defender and his recent games have included a goal as well as a rare clean sheet for the Eagles. However, Chalobah has actually been the best ghost points scorer all season for his new London club (10.1 gPPG). Although Fulham are not the easiest team to face, their goal scoring rate has slowed down a bit, with only 4 goals in their last 3 games, with half of them coming against Brentford in the dying stages of that match. A clean sheet could be on the cards for the Eagles!
Abdoulaye Doucoure (M, Everton)
Doucoure missed GW10 with a slight injury but has been cleared to play in GW11 versus West Ham. Doucoure used to be a fantasy darling for many Fantrax managers but seems to no longer have the legs or creativity for that No. 10 spot anymore. Therefore, Dyche has moved the French midfielder into a more defensive midfield position and his Fantrax points have actually benefitted! After only scoring 2.25 FPts across 2 starts in the CAM role, Doucoure subsequently scored 33.75 FPts across 5 appearances in his new role. Although his improvement does not make him much more attractive as an asset, he's still a MID-4/5 in deeper leagues with the potential of getting a goal or two as he has done in previous seasons.
Justin Kluivert (M, Bournemouth)
After leading for almost the entire game in GW10, Brentford eventually lost the match by conceding 2 goals in extra-time to Fulham, and have conceded a ton of goals already this season. This is one of the main reasons we're even suggesting an asset like Kluivert. After Evanilson missed his penalty versus Chelsea, Kluivert was given the responsibility and successfully dispatched his chance versus Arsenal. Although Kluivert's starts haven't been consistent this season, we're still backing the Dutch MID to start this weekend after his impressive 10.5 FPts performance against the champions Manchester City.
Yasin Ayari (M, Brighton)
Ayari has had a on-and-off time to his career at Brighton so far this season. However, given the injuries to players like O'Riley and Baleba, a spot in the middle of the pitch opened up for the young Swede and he seems to have grabbed it with both hands. Since his run of starts in GW8, Ayari has scored 10.6 gPPG, the most of any Brighton outfielder. Most interestingly, he boasts the most key passes (7) in that period. He will have his work cut out for him against the Cityzens and might not be as creative, but we still expect him to score well as the he has shown he can also rack up points from tackles won and interceptions.
Ferdi Kadioglu (M, Brighton)
Kadioglu arrived into the Premier League with a lot of hype around him, and rightly so. This had dampened a bit, but after registering his first attacking return of the season with a goal against Liverpool he's back on the radar. Kadioglu's versatility has seen the Dutch MID play on either flank for the Seagulls, be it an attacking one or a defensive one. Given his eye for goal and Manchester City's inability to keep clean sheets this season, he could be a great option for a midfielder punt. Even if Kadioglu plays in the backline for Brighton, he's registered as a MID so the goals against won't hurt one bit!
Evanilson (F, Bournemouth)
As mentioned earlier, Brentford have one of the worst defensive records in the league. This is the only reason we'd suggest an asset like Evanilson, despite his woeful ghost points record (3.9 gPPS). However, the reason Irola brought in Evanilson, was to score goals and he's now got 3 in his last 5 games, with 2 coming in back-to-back games against Aston Villa and Manchester City. We're not suggesting you play him as your lone-forward, but he could be a great FWD-3 this weekend.
