Fantasy EPL Gameweek 14 Sleepers XI
For this article, we use the percentage rostered calculation from Fantrax and Sleeper. Our only rule is that each player we highlight is rostered in 60% of leagues or fewer at the time of writing. Therefore, there's a good chance some of these players will be free agents in your Draft league! As always, we'll take form, fixtures, projected points, and a healthy dose of intuition into account to make our selections.
Zero goals, zero assists and 1 clean sheet. What a brutal gameweek. Our Sleepers XI combined for an underwhelming 68 FPts in Gameweek 13 and it was not an easy one to digest by any means. There are some positives to take away from the sad score though. There were 3 assets that scored 10+ FPts, Nathan Collins (15.75 FPts, 1 goal conceded), Pau Torres (10.5 FPts including a clean sheet) and Igor Jesus (10 FPts). Although the remaining assets all scored fewer than 10 FPts, the positive takeaway was that there were no negative scores. Small wins. So in net, Areola got 4.5 FPts (2 goals conceded). In our backline, Milenkovic scored 2.75 FPts (2 goals conceded) and Wolfe, after a hot start, ended up with 2.5 FPts (1 goal conceded & 1 yellow card). In our 3-man midfield, Harvey Barnes failed to continue his hot streak and only got 3.25 FPts, Sasa Lukic came off the bench and put up 4.25 FPts, while Adam Wharton got 8.5 FPts. Finally, up front, our remaining two forwards, Barry (4 FPts) and Callum Wilson (2 FPts) rounded out our sad little score. Time to bounce back though. So stay tuned as we tackle Gameweek 14.
The Sleepers XI table below includes a full team of Starters, as well as 5 Reserves - high-upside players with some question marks around whether they'll start in Gameweek 14. So, keep an eye out when lineups are announced and pick them up if you see them starting, especially if you need to fill a spot on your roster. Read below for the rationale behind each of the Starter selections.
Matz Sels (G, Nottingham Forest)
If there are any assets that are available to stream against Wolves, you should pick them up immediately. Rob Edwards has come into the club to try and shake things up, and help them avoid relegation, but it seems as though nothing has changed under the ex-Luton boss. Wolves have not scored a single goal over their last 4 games, which screams clean sheet potential. Things have definitely definitely improved under Dyche though. They managed to keep a clean sheet against Liverpool since his appointment, which is shockingly their only one for the season so far. This is mental to think of given the fact that Sels shared the Golden Glove trophy last season with Raya. So definitely start Sels this gameweek.
Luke Shaw (D, Man Utd)
According to our Fixture Difficulty Tracker, Manchester United defenders have the best rated fixture in Gameweek 14. Despite finding a bit of form under Nuno, West Ham have actually been pretty shocking on the road in recent games. Over their last 4 away games, the Hammers have lost 2 and drawn 2, while conceding 7 goals. Manchester United on the other hand, have won 3 of their last 4 home games and only conceded 4 times. Luke Shaw is only 1 of 2 defenders who have started every game under Amorim this season, so his spot feels very secure and reliable, especially during this time of the season. Even though the England veteran has only kept 2 clean sheets so far, his approximate 8.5 gPPS over the last 4 gameweeks warrants starting him as your DEF-3/4.
Nicolo Savona (D, Nottingham Forest)
It should come as no surprise that I've double up on the Nottingham Forest defence for this week's roster. I've already explained how bad the Wolves attack is, so the clean sheet play is quite obvious. So let's look into the attacking upside that comes with Savona. Since Dyche's first game in charge in the Prem, Savona has started every game and played the full matches. If you compare him to his fellow defenders during the same period, Savona has registered the most shots on target (3), tied for most ACNCs (2) and scored the most goals (2). So against Wolves, we're expecting him to contribute on both ends of the pitch. So considering these factors and his 17.1 FPts ceiling, he can easily be your DEF-2/3 in Gameweek 14.
Piero Hincapie (D, Arsenal)
It was honestly a shock to the system to not see Saliba starting versus Chelsea in Gameweek 13, and to be honest, the combination of Hincapie and Mosquera didn't fill me with tonnes of confidence against the Blues. However, the likes of Raya, Timber and Calafiori should still be enough to continue Arsenal's defensive dominance in the league. Even if Saliba was fit enough for the Gunners' home fixture against Brentford, we'd expect Hincapie to retain his spot as the Gabriel replacement. Although Arsenal have the 2nd best home record in the league so far, only behind Man City, they have only conceded 2 goals in 6 games at the Emirates. Thiago might be on red hot form for the Bees, but we can't see anything else but a shut out for the Arsenal backline.
Tosin Adarabioyo (D, Chelsea)
The Chelsea defence currently have 6 clean sheets for the season so far, which is tied with Crystal Palace in 2nd, only behind the leaders Arsenal. What's really impressive though, is that 4 of those clean sheets have actually come over their last 6 games. It helps that the Blues had fairly easy fixtures during that run, which is why it seems like an obvious place to go as they face Leeds next. Regardless of the hosts scoring 2 goals against Man City in their most recent game, we're still confident that the Blues can shut out their Yorkshire opponents. The tricky part about the Chelsea defence though, is the rotation. Maresca has basically been sharing starts and minutes between everyone not named Chalobah or Cucurella. So given Fofana started the last game, and the quick turnaround of matches, we're expecting Tosin to come in to help with the load management of Maresca's players, so as to avoid injuries at such a crucial part of the season.
Anton Stach (M, Leeds)
One of the hottest assets at the start of the season might be making his way around our rosters again. After the the first 4 gameweeks, Stach was averaging just over 11 PPS, cementing his place as a MID-3/4 in many of our rosters. He was basically an all-action hero, taking almost every set piece, while contributing with a sprinkling of defensive actions. Then Longstaff came around and stole the show, taking away Stach's set pieces and basically displacing him as the main man in Leeds' midfield. It didn't help that Stach was apparently carrying a couple of injuries as well, which then led to the German being subbed early and also starting to hold a spot on their bench. Now that Longstaff is injured for the foreseeable future, we're assuming Stach comes right back in and picks up the form we were all attracted to initially. Despite the tough fixture against Chelsea, we're still expecting around 7-8 FPts from Stach. Decent returns for a MID-4/5 option if you need one.
Enzo Le Fee (M, Sunderland)
In Gameweek 13, Enzo Le Fee, lovingly known as ELF, put up his highest score for the season, 26 FPts which included a goal and an assist during their comeback win against Bournemouth. This was only the 2nd time that we've seen the French midfielder play in an attacking midfield role, which is funny as the last time he did so, it was against Manchester United, where he scored his lowest tally of the season (-0.5 FPts). Let's focus on the positives though. The 26-point haul is the asset that we all drafted initially, but it took some time for Regis Le Bris to settle on some of his best starting XI combos. It also massively helps that ELF appears to be the chosen penalty taker for the Black Cats, and with Trai Hume having lost his starting spot, ELF seems to have been given shared responsibility of taking corners with Xhaka. It's actually how he got his assist for their winning goal against Bournemouth. Visiting Anfield is never easy but Liverpool have been far from solid at the back, so it's a punt worth taking.
Mats Wieffer (M, Brighton)
I must admit, Mats Wieffer has really surprised me this season. After his quiet start, I was very skeptical about his position in the squad and his viability as a MID-3 in my roster. Yet over his last 6 starts, the Dutch MID has scored +10 FPts on 4 different occasions. Wieffer has been deployed as the Seagulls' right back for almost the entire season, and he has been averaging just over 9 gPPS over his last 6 starts, which is the most ghost points scored of all Brighton assets during that run. He's even registered 2 assists during that time! It's probably only a matter of time until he gets a goal as well. Although Brighton have a tough fixture against Aston Villa in Gameweek 14, the best part of Wieffer is that he doesn't get penalised for any goals that Brighton might concede, yet he benefits from the defensive output that his role comes with. He sits 3rd for aerials (18) and 3rd for clearances (39), but sits at the top for tackles won (23), 5 clear of his teammate Gomez. So it's crazy to see this set-and-forget option, being eligible as a Sleepers pick. Grab him now!
Yeremy Pino (M, Crystal Palace)
Yeremi-Pino-season has finally arrived! After his highest score of the season against Wolves (21 FPts including a goal and yellow card), he rewarded faithful managers with his 2nd highest score of the season, 7.75 FPts. You're probably laughing reading this, but it was the 2nd most key passes (3) that he's also achieved in a match. Now that Ismaila Sarr is ruled out for the next few gameweeks, and possibly missing AFCON due to an ankle ligament injury, Pino might benefit from the Senegalese's absence. He took half the corners in the Eagles' last game and is already the 2nd most creative outfielder for them with 15 key passes to-date, only 2 behind leader Wharton (17 key passes). Burnley look like their initial season momentum has completely worn off, and seeing as the Clarets have conceded 10 goals in their last 4 games, only fewer than the likes of Leeds and Bournemouth, I'm expecting another big score from the Spaniard. Maybe his first assist!
Eli Kroupi (F, Bournemouth)
Bournemouth have been hit badly with suspensions and injuries for Gameweek 14. Even with Senesi suspended, the Cherries will be missing Cook and Brooks due to their own card accumulations, as well as Christie due to a recent injury. So there should be room for attackers like Kroupi to come in. Kroupi's 12.8 PPS is the 3rd best of all Bournemouth outfielders, and despite only starting 4 games this season, he's already scored the 2nd most goals (4) for them, only behind the likes of Semenyo (6). After Everton just conceded 4 goals to Newcastle, and the Toffees' midfield looking light from a defensive perspective, you'd fancy Bournemouth to score a few goals. The good thing about this punt is that it's the first game of the gameweek, so if he doesn't start, you can easily pivot elsewhere.
Omari Hutchinson (F, Nottingham Forest)
What does Hutchinson need to do to start a game under Dyche in the league?! In his last 3 appearances, all coming off the bench, the young English FWD has put up scores of 13, 11 and 18.5 FPts. He also registered 3 assists over those 3 sub appearances. In this same time frame, he's registered the 3rd most shots (5), 2nd most key passes (5) and most successful dribbles (8) of all Forest assets. These are insane numbers for a super-sub. With Wolves up next, the easiest fixture in the league at the moment, if Hutchinson starts, you could argue him being your FWD-1. It's crazy to say but with those kinds of numbers, he's actually been the 2nd highest scoring FWD in the league in the last 3 gameweeks. Heck, I'd even risk starting him off the bench if I were in a pinch.
