Gameweek 15 Ghost Point Hunters: Fantrax EPL

We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 15 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!

Gameweek 15 Ghost Point Hunters

Given the onset of mid-week games and the brief turnaround, we're doing an abbreviated version of GPH this week; quick and dirty. On the big board, we have some newcomers to analyze: Ryan Yates, Konstantinos Mavrapanos, & Vitaly Janelt. Meanwhile, Honorable Mention includes more household names: Antonee/Jedi Robinson, Joelinton, Martin Odegaard, & Serge Aurier. And the Dr. Peter Venkman Award goes to someone extremely deserving - in fact, he could/should be designated every single week - Nicolo Zaniolo.

Ryan Yates

Position: Midfielder

Team: Nottingham Forest

Rostered: 1%

Ghost Points Per Start: 7.4

Ghost Points Last GW: 15

Prospects: Yates got his first start since September and made the most of it. He posted 15 ghosties from a myriad of sources: 1 Key Pass, 1 Shot on Target, 5 Tackles Won, 1 Interception, 2 Clearances, 2 Successful Dribbles, 1 Blocked Shot, & 4 Aerials. In fact, he was just 1 Accurate Cross Not a Corner (ACNC) away from the storied full house (at least one of every statistical category). It's impressive stuff, and injuries and congested fixtures mean he may get a run of games. But this is his first time delivering this type of production, and we've seen random Forest assets randomly ghost before going quiet (e.g., Murillo, Dominguez, Sangare, etc). We don't fully trust him yet but he's worth keeping an eye on and punting on in a pinch.

Verdict: Pick him up if in need of a midfield streamer; TBD if he is a near term hold.

Konstantinos Mavraponos

Position: Defender

Team: West Ham United

Rostered: 2%

Ghost Points Per Start: 9.4

Ghost Points Last GW: 10.5

Prospects: The Greek got a surprise start over Zouma, who apparently didn't make it due to personal reasons (his house was burgled). He gave away the ball for the Crystal Palace equalizer - so he is not currently on Moyes' christmas card list - but he did score well for our purposes. He posted double digits scary scores from 2 Tackles Won, 6 Clearances, & 7 Aerials. He is very unlikely to usurp big Kurt, but he should get some starts over the festive season and he has shown he can ghost. Mavraponos is a decent DEF streamer if/when he starts - act accordingly ROS.

Verdict: One to keep in mind for streaming when he is on the teamsheet.

Vitaly Janelt

Position: Midfielder

Team: Brentford

Rostered: 27%

Ghost Points Per Start: 5.3

Ghost Points Last GW: 10.5

Prospects: Doing a job at Left Back due to Rico Henry's injury, Janelt is putting up solid numbers (8 and 10.5, respectively, in his last two starts) in his newfound role. He dropped 10.5 ghosts this past GW, stemming from 4 Key Passes, 2 Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs), 1 Interception, 5 Clearances, & 2 Aerials. He's quite the active LB and he's finally getting 90 minutes. If the circumstances continue, he should be considered a higher end MID streamer.

Verdict: Stream if you need a MID.

Honorable Mention:

  • Antonee Robinson (Fulham DEF; 23 ghosts): Breaking a record with 13 Interceptions v Liverpool - was it just because the American Jedi (his self-imposed childhood nickname, unfortunately, due to his affinity for Star Wars) - was against us this GW? Partially, yes, but he has been ghosting like crazy for weeks now. His GPPS form is over a dozen ghosties per start. If he keeps it up, he's set and forget.

  • Joelinton (Newcastle United MID; 20.5 ghosts): The guy is an enigma. He drops a meager 1.5 ghosts in back to back games before going HAM with over 20 scary scores. This makes him both valuable & frustrating - he has the potential to win GWs or blank. You just don't know what you're going to get.

  • Martin Odegaard (Arsenal MID; 15 ghosts): After a somewhat slow start, the Norwegian magician is starting to cook. This 15 point ghoster was his best supernatural performance of the season. Let's see if he can keep it up during the festive season.

  • Serge Aurier (Nottingham Forest DEF; 11.5 ghosts): The ghost point legend needs no introduction. He has recently fallen on hard times but still has it in his locker to go all Casper on opponents. He's one to have in the streaming rolodex over the next few weeks when the rotation is heavy.

Category Killers:

  • Key Passes:Julian Alvarez (7)

  • Successful Dribbles: Mohammad Kudus (6)

  • Aerials: Raul Jimenez (8)

  • Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs): Simon Adingra (2)

  • Tackles Won: Ryan Christie (6)

  • Interceptions: Antonee Robinson (13)

Dr. Peter Venkman Award:

Nicolo Zaniolo (Aston Villa MID; -1.5 ghosts): This was the easiest decision we've ever had in this regard. Who should receive the award for ghosting poorly this week? Er, maybe the guy who had negative ghosts. Yeah, let's do that. You heard that right - Zaniolo chalked up negative ghost points this GW. How did he manage that? Here's how: 1 Yellow Card, 3 Dispossessions, & 1. He finished with -3.5 points. The Italian has had a horrific start to his stint in Blighty - a betting scandal amidst mediocre performances. He has failed to get off the mark and it's December. Fantasy-wise, he's in the hall of shame. He's averaging 2.5 ghosts per start and has been yanked at the half in his past 3 starts. Avoid at all costs.
