We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 23 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!

Gameweek 23 Ghost Point Hunters

Jesper Lindstrom

Position: Midfielder

Team: Everton

Rostered: 7%

Ghost Points Per Start: 6.6 (prior to this GW)

Ghost Points Last GW: 21

Prospects: Now this is what we've been waiting for from the baby-faced Scandinavian! Jesper Lindstrom teased us earlier in the season with a few starts and tasty set pieces. But he hasn't really cracked on, continuing to share a winger spot with Jack Harrison on one of the least prolific attacks in the league. However, things are now looking up. New/old manager David Moyes fielded him over the weekend and he grasped the opportunity with both hands, delivering an absurd 21 ghosties, stemming from 4 Key Passes, 1 Shot on Target, 5 Tackles Won, 4 Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs), 2 Interceptions, & 2 Clearances. Lindstrom also passed the eye test and has left many assuming that he will likely fend off competition from Harrison and make that role his own. Yes, lads, it's against Tottenham, and this could be fleeting. But this performance is still a good sign, especially as there is a playmaking void with McNeil still out, there is a DGW on the horizon in GW24, and the schedule is decent for the foreseeable future. Minutes could still be an issue (he did this against Spurs in just under 70 minutes) but he very well could end up being Moyes' guy. We love him as a potential high upside punt in the DGW and beyond.

Verdict: Pick him up - DGW coming in GW24.

David Brooks

Position: Midfielder

Team: Bournemouth

Rostered: 8%

Ghost Points Per Start: N/A

Ghost Points Last GW: 18.75

Prospects: We're very happy to see David Brooks back on the pitch. Diagnosed with cancer just over 3 years ago, he's made a miraculous comeback. He's mostly come off the bench this season but a few injuries have resulted in the dynamic Welshman starting two games on the trot. He finished with a solid but unremarkable 6 total points the game before last but this GW he put up mouthwatering numbers. Brooks dropped nearly 19 scary scores stemming from 4 Key Passes, 3 Shots on Target, 3 ACNCS, 1 Interception, 1 Clearance, & 2 Successful Dribbles. He was also unlucky to get an assist chalked off by VAR. We don't expect these numbers to continue, sadly, as he has been somewhat mediocre in the past. But he can still provide some upside moving forward. With Tavernier coming back relatively soon, his days may be numbered. But ride it until the wheels fall off if need be.

Verdict: Despite the valid skepticism, if you need a MID5 streamer, he can do a job.

Djed Spence

Position: Defender

Team: Tottenham Hotspur

Rostered: 22%

Ghost Points Per Start: N/A

Ghost Points Last GW: 11.75

Prospects: Spurs are an absolute disaster. Fantasy-wise, the only starters who could hold their heads high after the latest debacle against Everton were Kulusevski and Djed Spence. The young fullback came to the bad part of North London amid much fanfare - as much as there can be at Spurs - but has largely been frozen out until recently. With Udogie out and Reguilon the only other competition, he has taken over the LB spot. Despite shipping 3 goals to an erstwhile misfiring Everton, he still finished with a decent 7.75 total points. This came from 3 Tackles Won, 9 Successful Dribbles, 1 Clearance, & 2 Aerials. Spence has so far proven his ghosting bonafides and has a decent matchup v fellow relegation threatened Leicester at home this GW. Don't expect Spurs to keep a cleansheet - they haven't in over a month - but the ghosts should continue.

Verdict: Pick him up!

Not So Fast:

  • Idrissa Gueye (Everton MID; 10 ghosts): We know a fraud when we see one, especially one of the CDM persuasion. Gueye dropping 20+ is largely due to 2 assists. As you can see, a lot of Toffees went off against the hapless Spurs. In short, let's not get ahead of ourselves. Gueye's 5.5 GPPS proves that this was an aberration. Having said all that, he will be a serviceable MID5 streamer for the DGW. Swings and roundabouts.

One To Watch:

  • Mikey Moore (Tottenham MID; 10.5 ghosts): One of the other rare bright spots for Tottenham in the loss to Everton was the 17 year old winger. Nicking an assist and posting double digit ghosts in just 16 minutes is quite impressive, even though it happened when Spurs were throwing the kitchen sink and chasing the game. It's TBD if he'll actually earn a start in the near future and this could just be a candle in the wind. But Ange has tried everything else, hasn't he?

Category Killer Winners:

  • Key Passes: Mohammed Salah (7)

  • Successful Dribbles: Djed Spence (9)

  • Aerials: Dominic Calvert-Lewin (11)

  • Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs): Jesper Lindstrom (4)

  • Tackles Won: Ryan Christie (5)

  • Interceptions: Konstantinos Mavropanos (5)

Dr. Peter Venkman Award:

Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal MID; 3.5 ghosts): An injury crisis can be viewed as an opportunity if it quickly brings youngsters into the fold. Arsenal academy gems Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have gotten much more playing time this season and developed much more than was previously expected due to gaps in the roster brought about by injuries to key players. MLS has been a revelation. Fearless - an advantage of youth - but also calm on the ball, the young LB has taken like a duck to water since his first EPL start in mid-December. He now has 5 starts under his belt, including a man of the match calibre display in the intense North London Derby. Fantasy-wise, however, he has been lackluster. He is unfortunately hamstrung by the fact that he is classified as a MID in Fantrax but playing as a DEF. So he doesn't get the goals conceded reductions but also doesn't receive the defender bonuses. The results have been mediocre. In his 5 starts, Lewis-Skelley only surpassed the 4 point mark once - with an 11 point display v Ipswich. Most recently, he salvaged 3.5 ghosties against Aston Villa. His 2 Tackles Won & 2 Interceptions were dented by a Dispossession. This is unfortunately par for the course. In short, despite impressing in real life, he just isn't a reliable fantasy scorer. Act accordingly.
