Waiver Wire Gameweek 24
Here we outline our Fantasy EPL Waiver Wire Gameweek 24 targets that have 40% rostered or below on Fantrax. These players should perform well over the upcoming period!
Jake O'Brien (Ros 4%)
Prospects: Everton are currently a team to buy "low" into as the Toffees have finally won back-to-back games for the first time all season. Someone say new manager bounce? This "record" seems a bit crazy given they've kept 8 clean sheets so far this season, which is similar to the likes of Arsenal. As for the DGW though, we're certainly not loving the second fixture versus Merseyside rivals Liverpool, however with Leicester up first, the team that's scored the fewest goals (4) in the last 8 gameweeks, we're loving the chances of a shut-out, especially with ghost points in the mix. There's been a new face that has emerged with Moyes at the helm, and he's actually young. The 23 year-old Irish DEF has displaced ole Ashley and is doing just as well, if not better. O'Brien's 7.8 gPPS is only 2nd to Tarkowski and assuming that he's first choice, we're expecting 12-15 FPts across the DGW. An acceptable haul for any DEF-3.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.
Idrissa Gueye (Ros 24%)
Prospects: One of the staple picks during any double gameweek is a steady-eddy. These utility assets don't always get the respect that they deserve during most of the season but this reliable option is almost a must-start during any double gameweek. Assets like Gueye play at least 90 minutes every single gameweek and tend to accumulate 6-8 FPts nearly every match, which is perfect as a MID-4/5 this gameweek. In GW21, Gueye managed to register his first set of attacking returns for the season which resulted in only his 2nd double digit score all season. So really, once this double gameweek is over, you can get rid of Gueye again. But for this double gameweek, the Evertonian with the most tackles won (43) and most interceptions (27) is sure to get you around 10-12 FPts this gameweek.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 1-2 FAB to get him.
Beto (Ros 1 %)
Prospects: Poor Dominic Calvert-Lewin. After waiting 16 games to finally score in the season again, he's only gone and injured his hamstring right before the double gameweek. However, not all is lost. You might not get the penalties with his replacement as that seems to have been assigned to Ndiaye, but you should still get 2 starts with Beto. He showed a lot of promise, effort and desire when he first broke onto the scene last season, but that charm quickly wore away as managers realised that he was struggling for starts and minutes, let alone goals. However we're going to assume that this might have been the Dyche-effect and we are willing to have hope again under a slightly differently footballing philosophy with Moyes. Everton are supposed to be playing a bit freer and with more attacking impetus so Beto's 5.25 FPts in 76 minutes after coming on as a sub for DCL is a good start. If Beto can manage to score his 2nd goal of the campaign against Leicester, anything versus Liverpool would be a bonus. He's a tidy FWD-3 to roster this GW, debatable beyond that.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.
Jacob Greaves (Ros 9%)
Prospects: Greaves has to be one of the most reliable promoted team assets we've seen in some time. Despite how many goals Ipswich concede or how badly they get battered, Greaves rarely tends to end those matches with a bad gameweek score. Even during the 4-1 loss to Liverpool, Greaves managed to score the lone goal for the Tractor Boys and save his own blushes. Greaves 7.9 PPS and 8.5 gPPS is the best of all Ipswich outfielders. Just for comparison, Greaves has more fantasy points than any Man City defender not named Gvardiol. Let that sink in. So if you're unable to get a double gameweek asset, maybe go safe with Greaves as they face bottom-of-the-league Saints in a classic 6-point affair where both promoted teams need a win at all costs to help them achieve Premier League safety.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 0-1 FAB to get him.
Mateus Fernandes (Ros 38%)
Prospects: On the other side of this bottom-of-the-league clash, it appears that Southampton have actually improved under Juric despite the lack of league points to back up that claim. However, recent games have seemed like Southampton keep coming close to earning a result against tough opposition and one man has been at the heart of most of these attempts and that's Mateus Fernandes. As it stands, Fernandes is the Saints top scoring asset and has been putting up just under 12 gPPS over his last 3 games despite facing the likes of Nottingham Forest and Newcastle, some of the most in-form teams in the league. So you'd surely expect a similar output and possibly a higher score against Ipswich Town. Mateus is a tidy MID-4/5 for any roster for the rest of the season as well.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 2-3 FAB to get him.
Paul Onuachu (Ros 4%)
Prospects: Tall Paul finally scored his first goal of the season albeit as a substitute versus Nottingham Forest in a narrow 3-2 win for the Tricky Trees. Juric then immediately rewarded the 6-foot-7 Nigerian striker with his 5th start of the campaign, where he completed the full match, for only the 2nd time this season. Dibling's injury will have helped in this regard, but if Paul has truly taken the starting spot back, he's a really dependable FWD-3 to have in the short or long-term, mainly because of his ghost point production. Given his stature, Onuachu is an easy candidate for winning aerials on the pitch and in his last 4 starts, he's won at least 6 aerials in each match. Assuming he's able to double his tally for the season versus Ipswich this weekend, we're looking at a very handy score, especially if you miss out on the likes of Beto or have to replace injured strikers like Strand Larsen in your roster. His 6.6 gPPS is not to be overlooked, even if he plays for Southampton.
Verdict: I would use a low-tier waiver pick or 1-2 FAB to get him.
