We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 26 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!
This Ghost Point Hunters article is based on the Fantrax Scoring System. Check out our Ghost Point Tracker page for the full list of Fantasy EPL players and their respective Ghost Point capabilities!
Gameweek 26 Ghost Point Hunters
Emerging from the rubble of the DGW, we enter the blank gameweek madness. We're just focusing on ghosts this week - blanks be damned. On the big board, we're going with Harvey Elliott, Ben Davies, DCL. Meanwhile, Honorable Mention is full of household names who had a field day in their DGWs: KDB, Barkley, MacAllister, & Rodri. And the Dr. Peter Venkman Award is going to someone with a strong name that he is failing to live up to: Harvey Barnes. He's incorrigible.
Harvey Elliott
Position: Midfielder
Team: Liverpool
Rostered: 20%
Ghost Points Per Start: 4.67
Ghost Points Last GW: 22.5 (in 2nd leg of DGW v Luton Town)
Prospects: Elliott continues to be an enigma in every way. Will he start? If so, will he perform? Will he take set pieces? Where will he play? The DGW didn't provide any answers. He failed to start the first and then went nuts in the second leg. With Salah & Nunez out with knocks, he slotted in at RW v Luton - to great effect. He paired a goal with a mouthwatering amount of ghosts, stemming from 8 Key Passes, 2 Shots on Target, 2 Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs), 1 Interception, & 2 Successful Dribbles. If Salah & Nunez remain out - not likely as their injuries don't seem serious - he is a high upside streamer (after the blank).
Verdict: Monitor the injury reports and pick him up next GW if it looks like he's going to get a start.
Ben Davies
Position: Defender
Team: Tottenham Hotspur
Rostered: 12%
Ghost Points Per Start: 7.25
Ghost Points Last GW: 14.25
Prospects: Slotting in yet again as the Tottenham defensive swiss army knife, Davies came in at LB for the injured Udogie. A bag of ghosts later, the Welshman reiterated his ghosting bonafides. Despite conceding 2 goals, he finished with double digit total points. His 14+ scary scores came from the following: 3 Key Passes, 1 Shot on Target, 2 Tackles Won, 1 Interception, 1 Clearance, 1 Successful Dribble, & 2 Aerials. He won't get you many cleanies but the man can ghost at LB.
Verdict: Pick up and stream next GW if he starts and you need defensive depth. He's proven himself to be a break glass in case of emergency streamer.
Dominic Calvert Lewin
Position: Forward
Team: Everton
Rostered: 76%
Ghost Points Per Start: 5.6
Ghost Points Last GW: 13.5
Prospects: DCL's biggest problem has always been fitness. But he is finally injury free and is starting consistently. The problem now is that he is just not scoring goals. He is on quite the barren run - no goals in 18 games, with his last goal coming in October v Bournemouth. For our purposes, however, goals aren't everything. And he just showed he can ghost when he wants. He dropped over a dozen ghosties v Palace with an aerial-dominated (no surprise there) performance: 1 Key Pass, 1 Tackle Won, 2 Clearance, 1 Successful Dribble, & 17 Aerials. His GPPS is historically not that great but he has been on a decent ghosting purple patch of late. If he can see the back of the net and keep this up, he can deliver some monsters. It's a big if, though.
Verdict: Try to trade in on a low if you believe he can end the drought fast. Try opening with a package of someone like Mateta or CHO+1.
Honorable Mention:
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City MID; 22 ghosts): The king is dead; long live the king.
Ross Barkley (Luton Town MID; 16 & 15.5 ghosts): He just won't stop ghosting, going from strength to strength every week. Unfortunately the time to get him in has likely passed. The blank GW and the longstanding Luton Town skepticism might open the door this week but it's going to be tricky.
Alexis MacAllister (Liverpool MID; 10 & 6 ghosts): Mac is back! But not for long. Grand opening, grand closing. With no Szobo, Trent, or Robbo, Mac takes some sets and gets on the ball more. This won't last - trade high.
Rodri (Manchester City MID; 18 & 6.5 ghosts): After going through a rough patch, the insufferable CDM+ is scoring well again. Don't you just despise him?
Category Killers:
Key Passes: Harvey Elliott (8)
Successful Dribbles: Ross Barkley (11)
Aerials: Dominic Calvert Lewin (17)
Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs): Kevin De Bruyne (6)
Tackles Won: Ben Godfrey (5)
Interceptions: Christian Norgaard (6)
Dr. Peter Venkman Award:
Harvey Barnes (Newcastle MID; 2.5 ghosts): There is the man and the myth. The former is a very attacking return dependent, boom or bust, & injury prone fantasy asset. The latter is a really fun, reliable, and worthy of investment. The two shall not meet. We've always subscribed to the fact that one just can't trust Harvey Barnes. He's a Do Not Draft guy for us - for all the reasons spelled out above. He keeps proving us right. He had his typical multi-goal cameos off the bench, getting everyone's hopes up yet again, before picking up a long term injury. Now he's forcing managers to have false hope. Barnes is seemingly back from his knock - although we know this won't last - and got a rare start this past GW. And he did not disappoint (unless you wanted/expected points). Barnes only mustered 2.5 points: 1 Tackle Won, 1 Interception, & 2 Aerials, which were dented by a Dispossession. Believe it or not, this did boost his GPPS - although it's still below 2. We've been crystal clear - he's not for us. If you don't expect the world, you can't be let down.
