Fantasy EPL Gameweek 37 Sleepers XI
For this article, we use the percentage rostered calculation from Fantrax and Sleeper. Our only rule is that each player we highlight is rostered in 60% of leagues or fewer at the time of writing. Therefore, there's a good chance some of these players will be free agents in your Draft league! As always, we'll take form, fixtures, projected points, and a healthy dose of intuition into account to make our selections.
Our GW36 Sleepers XI (well the ones that actually showed up) put up a decent performance with a 78 FPts score. We had one no-show in Matheus Nunes who did not play a single minute in GW36 despite 3 consecutive starts for Man City before this game. There were 3 substitute appearances as well, one from each outfield position with Maatsen scoring 0 (1 minute), Bellegarde getting 1.75 FPts (29 minutes) and Fullkrug registering 1.5 FPts (16 minutes). The players that actually played their full games were our goalkeeper Kepa (5.25 FPts with 1 goal conceded), Kayode (16.25 FPts with a clean sheet and a yellow card), Tete (3.25 FPts after conceding 3 goals), Enciso (8.5 FPts), Garner (6 FPts) and Wieffer (16.5 FPTs with an assist). Our remaining asset was Beto (19 FPts with a goal) who got subbed off in the 88th minute. All in all a decent total with lessons learnt, so here's hoping we can improve in the coming GW37.
The Sleepers XI table below includes a full team of Starters, as well as 5 Reserves - high-upside players with some question marks around whether or not they'll start in Gameweek 37. So, keep an eye out when lineups are announced and pick them up if you see them starting, especially if you need to fill a spot on your roster. Read below for the rationale behind each of the Starter selections.
Robert Sanchez (G, Chelsea)
Sanchez IRL can be an extremely nervous watch on match days but to be fair to the Spanish shot-stopper, his 9 PPS makes him one of the best and most reliable options in the waiver pool. After losing to Newcastle in GW36, the Blues face a difficult task of securing a Champions League spot for next season, especially without one of their key components in attack, Nicolas Jackson. So Chelsea will at least have to be defensively solid, which should be possible given they're facing Manchester United next, the 18th best team in the league over the last 6 games. In that time, the Red Devils have only scored 5 goals, equalling Ipswich Town (20th) and only bettering Southampton's 3 goals (19th). Even our fixture difficulty tracker suggests that Chelsea GKs have the best rated fixture this gameweek. So there's a good chance of a clean sheet, especially considering that Sanchez has kept 4 cleans in his last 9 games.
Cameron Burgess (D, Ipswich Town)
If you're wanting to punt on the Ipswich Town defence, there's a strong chance that the likes of Leif Davis, Greaves and O'Shea are already rostered or have been picked up during waiver runs. So your last possible chance might be Cameron Burgess, which isn't the worst backup option. Burgess has been averaging 8 gPPS over the last few gameweeks, which is decent for a DEF-3/4 in your roster. Although the Scotsman seems to mostly dominate the clearances in the Tractor Boys backline, he does have some attacking threat from set pieces too.
Chris Richards (D, Crystal Palace)
It's crazy to see that Richards is still so lowly owned in leagues. The American CB has picked up right where he left off and been an extremely reliable pick over the last couple of gameweeks with a 12.5 ghost game against Nottingham Forest and a 15.75 FPts clean sheet haul against Spurs. That being said, I'd understand the hesitation with rolling him out this week given the Eagles are playing in the FA Cup final against Man City on Saturday and then playing their league game against Wolves on the Tuesday, with no other fixtures to possibly rely on for picks in case of a non-start. However I'm going out on a limb and thinking that he actually might start both games as CBs typically tend to play the most minutes/games out of any outfielder. So if he does start, it's easily still a DEF-2/3 in any gameweek.
Conor Bradley (D, Liverpool)
Trent got a mixed reception from the fans after coming on as a substitute in the last game which could influence how Slot lines up his starting XI for the remainder of Liverpool's campaign. Assuming Slot starts Bradley, he could be a good DEF-3 for your team. The Reds play Brighton next, who are still trying to secure a spot in Europe meaning that Liverpool could struggle to keep a clean sheet. The good thing is that Conor has been averaging around 7 gPPS over his last few games, so there's still a bit of a points buffer. Also Bradley still has the potential to get attacking returns while playing alongside the likes of Salah and Szobo as Slot is still keen to try and win every game possible.
Toti (D, Wolves)
If you've got picks from Man City or Crystal Palace and are uncertain about them starting their respective fixtures on the final day of the gameweek, Toti is a good safety net to have in place in your roster. He's still a reliable DEF-3 and has been averaging just over 8 gPPS over the last few gameweeks. Despite Crystal Palace being one of the more in-form teams in the league, they might suffer from a bit of fatigue and rotation after their FA Cup final, meaning that Wolves stand a better chance of keeping a clean sheet. Vitor is not one to take the poor performances lightly, as evidenced by his quad-substitution that even included the likes of Cunha. So expect a better performance this weekend from Wolves and their assets.
Harry Wilson (M, Fulham)
Since returning from injury, Wilson has started the last 3 games in a row and has been averaging 7.5 gPPS during that stretch. During GW36, Wilson attempted the most shots in the league (8 shots, 3 on target), so the intent is clear and fully aligned with Fulham's, which is to try and win as many points as possible so that they give themselves a chance of European football. The early subs might be a concern but the points floor isn't, even considering he's taking a share of the corners and free kicks. Here's hoping for a goal fest in a London derby against Brentford.
Julio Enciso (M, Ipswich)
After personally benching Enciso in his last few games (with massive regret), it's time to finally roll him out. Enciso has 2 goals and an assist in his last 5 games and is currently averaging at least 8 PPS during his time at Ipswich Town. Given his ceiling is around 16 FPts, there's a very good chance that he hits it when he faces Leicester City this weekend. Even though the Foxes have picked up a bit of form recently, it's Ipswich's away form which has been the main source of their league points this season. The Tractor Boys have won 1 and drawn 2 of their last 4 away games, whilst Leicester's home form continues to be dire, with 3 losses in their last 4 homes games. So if you need a MID-4/5 with some upside, Enciso could be your guy.
Kasey McAteer (M, Leicester City)
One of the reasons why Leicester City might have had a recent uptick in their league form could be the reintroduction of McAteer into the starting XI. McAteer has started 3 of the last 4 games for Leicester, and in those fixtures, the Foxes have won once and drawn twice. McAteer has also averaged just over 7 gPPS during that time. This weekend Leicester City play Ipswich Town in a game that really means nothing to either club but the focus will definitely be on Jamie Vardy getting his 200th premier league goal. So if you back Leicester to be the more attacking team, McAteer could benefit massively as a MID-4/5 punt.
Mateus Fernandes (M, Southampton)
Southampton have finally earned enough points to avoid the title of being the worst Premier League team ever, as they surpassed Derby's dismal tally. It's hard to say whether or not Southampton will completely down their tools now but they'll surely want to try and spoil the Goodison party this weekend. Mateus has been averaging 7 PPS over his last 4 games, which is fairly in line with his season average, which makes him one of the more reliable picks from the Southampton pool of players. If the Saints are to get any joy in this game, then Fernandes is most likely to play a part given he's been one of their chief creators.
Mats Wieffer (M, Brighton)
Mats Wieffer is a hot commodity at the moment. The Dutchman has started the last 4 games, averaging 15 PPS and also registered 3 fantasy assists. His points seem to be coming from a plethora of categories, which is always promising from a fantasy asset. If Liverpool are going to rotate their squad this weekend, the fixture might not be as bad on paper as it seems for the Seagulls, especially as they are still trying to finish as high in the table as possible so as to earn a spot in one of the European leagues next season.
Beto (F, Everton)
In what is Everton's final home game at Goodison Park, expect an electric atmosphere and possibly a lot of goals as the Toffees host the worst team in the league, Southampton. After a barren spell of 8 games in a row without a goal, Beto has now scored in back-to-back games against Ipswich Town and Fulham, so it's hard to not see him score again this weekend. He could arguably be a FWD-2 for your roster this weekend.
