James Ward-Prowse
Position: Central Mid (M in Fantrax)
Team: Nottingham Forest
Signed From: Southampton on loan (TM value of €30m)
Prospects: You'll notice our top 8 transfers in this league are inter-Prem transfers. That both means that these players are well known-commodities, and that they're prior/loaner teams wanted to get rid of them. That is very much the case with the 29yo JWP. He's started 34+ games 5 seasons in a row and averaged between 10.7 and 12.1 PPS in all of them. This summer, however, he found himself largely on the outside looking in of the West Ham preferred XI. New manager Lopetegui brought in a plethora of talent (including Summerville, Fullkrug, Guido Rodriguez, Soler, etc.) and with Paqueta not suspended yet and Alvarez and Soucek still around, JWP looked way down the pecking order. In come Forest, in need of more bodies in mid, particularly after losing Danilo to a horror injury. Currently their mid consists of Sangare & Anderson in the pivot and MGW in the 10. Yates & Dominguez are the senior backups. MGW very likely isn't going anywhere so it'll most likely be Anderson (who's played well recently) or Sangare (who's started 3/3 games), that JWP will need to displace. To be fantasy-relevant he'll also need to take a majority of set pieces when he plays (he was 42% reliant on sets for points last season). That should be rather simple with Forest not currently settled on a first choice taker (6 guys have taken them so far, Elanga the most). Forest are a worse team than West Ham but did have nearly as many sets (corners plus free kicks) last season. Even at 29yo on a worse team JWP should be able to put up 9+ PPS which is certainly a roster-worthy mid. He still may not get a ton of starts though, as a loanee and with open-play talent running out. Still, Forest signed him for a reason, and if he gets 20+, you're happy and for a potentially good PPS mid it's worth 25 or so FAAB (if he's not already rostered).
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Abridged for the Sake of Tuesday Waivers
Eddie Nketiah
Position: Striker (F in Fantrax)
Team: Crystal Palace
Signed From: Arsenal for €30m
Prospects: 25yo long standing Arsenal backup forward finally finds himself an English home who may better appreciate his talents. A pretty goal-dependent (9.1 PPS, 4.2 GPPS last season) striker, he'll likely only be used as a centre-forward but his best bet might be playing next to Mateta with Eze behind them as a 10 in a modified Glasner 3-5-2. That would mean beating out also new signings, Daichi Kamada (started 2 of 3) and Ismailla Sarr for the 3rd and final attacker role. Edouard out the door to Leicester should help. Big fee, talented, young player, I'd expect him to start a lot of games and be Mateta-lite (high variance, low floor, high ceiling). 15 FAAB if you need a forward
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Jadon Sancho
Position: Winger (F in Fantrax)
Team: Chelsea
Signed From: Man United on loan, obligation to buy of ~€25m
Prospects: 24yo finds himself a new English home as well. Lots of competitions on the wings, particularly the left. Better chances to start on the right where its mostly Madueke and Palmer (who's shifted to the 10/advanced 8 for now). Capable fantasy player when he plays (11.1 PPS, 9.1 GPPS for Dortmund last season, he just may not play a lot. I do think he'll get his chances considering Madueke is inconsistent, Neto is injury-prone, Mudryk is bad, and Felix is debatable, but they may be quite sporadic, so likely a frustrating hold for many fantasy managers for the next month or two. 5-10 FAAB for me: any Chelsea attacker DOES have upside, its just hard for me to see Sancho realizing it.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Raheem Sterling
Position: Winger (F in Fantrax)
Team: Arsenal
Signed From: Chelsea on loan (TM value of €35m)
Prospects: Similar writeup to Sancho above. Fallen out of favour/wage structure with previous club. New environment with a better opportunity for minutes, albeit limited. Capable of competing for the LW spot with Martinelli and Trossard, and more than capable of backing up Saka on the RW (which Arsenal desperately needed - an upgrade on Nelson below). Manager, Arteta seems fond of him from their time at City together, and LW is one of the rare, unsettled positions in the XI. But, Sterling is also a loanee without an option to buy. More than likely, he'll end up a backup, sporadic starter, who becomes more relevant when UCL really kicks in. A Martinelli or Trossard injury however, would make him an immediate value roster. 5-10 FAAB
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Reiss Nelson
Position: Winger (F in Fantrax)
Team: Fulham
Signed From: Arsenal on loan (TM value of €25m)
Prospects: 24yo Arsenal winger going the other way (out). Has never had a 1000+ min domestic season and has been on the Arsenal bench for the past 3 seasons, totaling only 500 minutes. Still, on his infrequent appearance, he's looked bright and come up with a clutch goal on occasion for the Gunners. Not really even enough minutes to generate meaningful stats. His last big minute season (900 minutes in Eredivisie for 3rd placed Feyenoord) he did put up an impressive 15.1 PP90 and 11.3 GPP90, but that was with a near set piece monopoly and in a far easier league. In 268 minutes in the Prem last season, he put up 7 PP90 (9.0 xPP90). He's coming in on loan to Fulham, a team desperate for winger depth after losing Willian & DeCordova-Reid. He'll be competing against the current starters Iwobi and Traore, as well as backup Harry Wilson and current 10 starter (and former Gunners teammate) ESR for minutes on the wing. Based on last season minutes, Adama is probably the most likely current starter he could displace. Fantasy managers/Adama lovers won't to hear it, and he has absolutely started the season well, but the jacked Spaniard has not started 15+ Prem games since 20/21. Injuries have played a large part, but inconsistent form and a lack of finishing and quality final third decision-making has often left him a super-sub at best. Still, him and Iwobi have the inside track to winger minutes under Silva at Fulham for now, so Nelson may need to wait his turn. Couple poor games from either of them though, and I expect Nelson gets his chance rather quickly. Scoring-wise, he's a fairly well-rounded player but generally has a solid floor from dribbles and tackles. Questionable minutes but potential talent (he is only 24 and had to backup Saka) make Nelson a decent forward punt in an okay attack. 0-5 FAAB
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Maxwel Cornet
Position: Winger (M in Fantrax)
Team: Southampton
Signed From: West Ham on loan (TM value of €9m)
Prospects: After a big 21/22 season for relegated Burnley (9 goals, 1 assist, 10.2 PP90, 5.2 GPP90 in 21 starts), the 27yo Ivorian's career stagnated at West Ham the past 2 seasons (350 Prem minutes total). Coming into a very poor Southampton side (who lack many wingers and 3 best attackers are Brereton, Armstrong, and Archer), there's chances for minutes but also not many points to go around. There's just too many questions here for me to spend anything, but considering he's a mid who could have some small upside (aka ability to get goals on occasion) he's worth an add to the watch list. Not sure Russell Martin calls his name soon.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️1/2
Odsonne Edouard
Position: Striker (F in Fantrax)
Team: Leicester City
Signed From: Crystal Palace on loan (TM value of €18m)
Prospects: 26yo provides much needed forward depth to Leicester. Vardy (and Daka when fit) will likely still be preferred but if any injury happens to either, he'll be a capable backup. It's a bad team though and he's never been a great fantasy point scorer, so only a pickup if he becomes the starte and has goof matchups.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️1/2
Armando Broja
Position: Striker (F in Fantrax)
Team: Everton
Signed From: Chelsea on loan (TM value of €22m)
Prospects: 23yo Broja escapes the bomb squad and finds himself on an Everton team in need of a future winger. There's an option to buy there and there should be another opportunity to prove himself in the Prem in the 2nd half of season, when he's back from injury, post October, and DCL may be gone due to his contract soon expiring. That would hypothetically have Broja competing with Beto and Chermitti for striker minutes, a doable task. However, he's definitely not worth adding now, due to the long term injury and lack of historical fantasy scoring (6 goals in 21 starts for Southampton in 21/22, then 2 wasted years at Chelsea)
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Maxence Lacroix
Position: Centre Back (D in Fantrax)
Team: Crystal Palace
Signed From: Wolfsburg for €18m
Prospects: 24yo Lacroix played big minutes in the Bundesliga last season (27 starts), and scored 7.6 PPS and 7.3 GPPS (6'3" height, 2.4 aerials per 90, 1.8 tackles). He's worth a watch as he'll likely start often and with his height, could take some of the defensive ghosts left on the table by Andersen's departure (and Richards likely benching). Still, not worth any FAAB at the moment.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Carlos Soler
Position: Central Midfielder (M in Fantrax)
Team: West Ham
Signed From: PSG on loan (TM value of €20m)
Prospects: 27yo Soler offers more talent to a crowded West Ham midfield. He'll be competing with Soucek, Alvarez, Paqueta, & Rodriguez for starts in the mid. 8.7 PPS and 6.2 GPPS in a much better PSG team in 12 starts, 24 apps last season. 0 defensive stats and work-rate but good shot-creation, assist, and shot numbers for a centre mid. He may not offer the defensive steel desired by Lopetegui, so may end up a backup, loanee 8/10 to Soucek/Paqueta.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Carlos (Forbs) Borges
Position: Winger (F in Fantrax)
Team: Wolves
Signed From: Ajax on loan (TM value of €8m)
Prospects: 20yo former Man City product, got his first senior minutes, predominantly at LW for 5th placed Ajax last season, putting up 2 goals, 3 assists, 12.6 PP90, 9.6 GPP90 in 880 minutes, 8 starts. He'll come into a league-relatively worse Wolves team with a good amount of bodes in attack to compete with (Cunha, Larsen, Bellegarde, Podence, Gomes, Sarabia, Guedes). Could certainly be excited if he finds starts (all-action stats, namely key passes, dribbles, tackles), but I'd expect it to take a while until he finds them. Another young Portuguese, potential gem for Wolves for the future. He's a pickup when he gets his first start/quality bench app due to potential scoring ability, but not one now.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Trevoh Chalobah
Position: Centre Back (D in Fantrax)
Team: Crystal Palace
Signed From: Chelsea on loan (TM value of €13m)
Prospects: Another bomb squad member Chelsea failed to sell, the 25yo Chalobah is a capable defender in real life. He'll likely start often alongside Guehi and Lacroix in Glasner's back 3, even as a loanee (beating out Riad when fit, Richards, Clyne, and Ward). But unfortunately, he's a pretty poor fantasy scorer, putting up only 6.6 PPS & 6.4 GPPS for a mediocre Chelsea side in 23/24. He just hasn't historically had the defensive volume (1.8 aerials per 90, 1.5 tackles per 90) to make him a worthwhile in a mediocre defense.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Kepa
Position: Goalie (G in Fantrax)
Team: Bournemouth
Signed From: Chelsea on loan (TM value of €12m)
Prospects: 29yo Kepa gets to be a Prem starter again.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Aaron Ramsdale
Position: Goalie (G in Fantrax)
Team: Southampton
Signed From: Arsenal for €21m
Prospects: 26yo Ramsdale gets to be a Prem starter again, and with a terrible team that gives up a lot of shots at that. Historically hasn't had good, consistent shot saving numbers. Goalies are goalies, throw your dart.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sam Johnstone
Position: Goalie (G in Fantrax)
Team: Wolves
Signed From: Crystal Palace for €12m
Prospects: 31yo Johnstone will compete with Jose Sa (if he stays) for the Wolves starting GK gig. He looks likely to win it, considering he played, and played well in GW3. Goalies are goalies, throw your dart.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Orel Mangala
Position: Central Mid (M in Fantrax)
Team: Everton
Signed From: Lyon on loan (TM value of €20m)
Prospects: 26yo formerly played at Forest and put up 3.7 PPS and 3.6 GPPS in 19 starts. Good player IRL but Everton mid is crowded and terrible fantasy points nonetheless.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Morato
Position: Centre Back/Left back (D in Fantrax)
Team: Nottingham Forest
Signed From: Benfica for €15m
Prospects: 23yo CB/LB provides needed CB depth behind Murillo and Milenkovic (and Boly). Comes from Portugal and put up 7.4 GPPS with Flamengo (solid, but not great tackle and aerials numbers). Also can play full back but unlikely to be needed there.
Rating: ⭐️⭐️
Jayden Meghoma
Position: Left Back (D in Fantrax)
Team: Brentford
Signed From: Southampton for €6m
Prospects: 18yo Meghoma is much needed full back depth for Brentford. Rico Henry will almost definitely be their LB/WB starter when fit, but when he's not, the highly rated youngster could eventually get his chance considering converted CB back Ajer and CM Janelt have so far featured there this season. Still, he's very young and hasn't played any senior minutes, so one for the future.
Rating: ⭐️1/2
Andre
Position: Defensive Midfielder (M in Fantrax)
Team: Wolves
Signed From: Fluminese for €22m
Prospects: 23yo defensive mid comes from Brazil and could be quite useful to Wolves in the future but stats look non-existent from a fantasy perspective(4.1 PP90 in Brazil).
Rating: ⭐️
Ryan Fraser
Position: Winger (M in Fantrax)
Team: Southampton
Signed From: Newcastle for free (TM value of €3m)
Prospects: 30yo Scot had 39 apps and 13 starts for the Saints last season in the Championship, scoring 6 goals, 2 assists, 7 PPS & 5.1 GPPS. In a step up to the Prem and a year older, there's little room for optimism here.
Rating: ⭐️
Matt Turner
Position: Goalie (G in Fantrax)
Team: Crystal Palace
Signed From: Nottingham Forest on loan (TM value of €7m)
Prospects: 30yo gets to be a backup at a 3rd Premier League team
Rating: ⭐️
