We ain’t afraid of no ghosts. In fact, we seek them – ghost points, that is. Ghost points are fantasy points that do not come from attacking returns or clean sheets. These can come in the form of key passes, shots on target, successful dribbles, interceptions, and tackles, among others. Identifying these points is essential for your Fantasy EPL prospects, and our Gameweek 24 Ghost Point Hunters article is here to help!

Gameweek 24 Ghost Point Hunters

Emmanuel Agbadou

Position: Defender

Team: Wolves

Rostered: 1%

Ghost Points Per Start: N/A (3rd start)

Ghost Points Last GW: 18.25

Prospects: Wolves finally made a new signing, bringing in much needed defensive cover in the form of Emmanuel Agbaou, a towering no-nonsense CB from Ligue 1. Prior to this past GW, he made two starts, with little to show for them. But against Arsenal over the weekend, he was an absolute monster, dropping nearly 20 ghosties. All in all, he accumulated 5 Tackles Won, 1 Interception, 5 Clearances, 4 Successful Dribbles, & 7 Aerials. This mouthwatering points haul has gotten our attention. But can it last?

We've seen some Wolves defenders ghost fairly well this season - Mosquera, Semedo, Doherty, and Toti have all put in some decent performances. But Wolves is still the leakiest defense in the league, and that lowers the ceiling on what Agbadou can deliver. If the big fella can help shore up this defense, however, and maintain even a semblance of this ghosting form, he can be a tidy DEF4/streamer ROS. A lot of ifs - we'll keep an eye on him.

Verdict: Jury is still very much out. But one to monitor. In a jam, not a terrible roll of the dice this GW in a decent matchup at home to a struggling Aston Villa.

Matty Cash

Position: Defender

Team: Aston Villa

Rostered: 40%

Ghost Points Per Start: 6.5

Ghost Points Last GW: 10.25

Prospects: Historically, we're not big fans of one Matty Cash. That's because his ghosts can be atrocious. But we're nothing if not fair; if the numbers change, so does our opinion. And the numbers have changed for the Villa Right Back - for the better. Over the last 4 games, he has posted over 12 PPS, many of which derive from ghosties. He has also passed the eye test, looking lively and bombing down that right hand side, nicking some attacking returns. Most recently, he continued to prove his ghost point bonafides, delivering double digit scary scores from 2 Key Passes, 2 Tackles Won, 1 Interception, 1 Clearance, 2 Successful Dribbles, & 1 Aerial.

It's still unclear why Matty Cash's fortunes have improved so much of late. Again, he usually doesn't ghost all that well. His 6 GPPS last season puts paid to that notion. And even after a nice run, his GPPS this campaign is still under 7. But it's a ride it until the wheels fall off scenario, particularly with a friendly schedule. A nice matchup against a poor Wolves side should keep the wheels on for now. (AFTER THE TIME OF WRITING, CASH APPEARS TO HAVE SUFFERED AN INJURY. PLEASE MONITOR HIS CONDITION BEFORE MAKING A MOVE).

Verdict: If he's available in your league, pick him up. If not and you need a DEF3, you could offer some FAAB or DGW asset this week (e.g., Gueye) for Cash.

Matheus Nunes

Position: Midfielder

Team: Manchester City

Rostered: 42%

Ghost Points Per Start: 8.9

Ghost Points Last GW: 12

Prospects: What a strange journey it's been for Matheus Nunes. He went from coveted gem at Sporting Lisbon to a top midfielder at Wolves to benchwarmer at Manchester City. Many have followed this well trodden path to the Etihad pine. But after being largely frozen out, he's back - and now starting right back. And he's been scoring well there. In GW23, he paired an Assist with a dozen ghosties: 2 Key Passes, 1 Shot on Target, 2 Tackles Won, 3 Interceptions, 2 Clearances, & 1 Blocked Shot.

Like with most Man City assets, minutes are a concern. But having moved on from Kyle Walker, Nunes might be the mainstay at right back. Rico Lewis may get a few games but the Portuguese will be well worth rostering at this rate. This weekend away at Arsenal will be a good test. Let's see if Pep persists with him at fullback. As I write this, Nunes has just given away a goal in the Champions League v Club Brugge - swings and roundabouts.

Verdict: Pick him up!

Not So Fast:

  • Anthony Elanga (Nottingham Forest MID; 14 ghosts): While a talented player who is playing well at the moment, we're just not confident that he can keep this up. Forest were chasing the game down big to Bournemouth most of the game. That might partially explain this explosion of ghosties. A nice FWD3 regardless, but we think this was probably an aberration. His GPPS is only just above 6. Let's pump the breaks for now.

One To Watch:

  • Joachim Andersen (Fulham DEF; 13 ghosts): The big Dane has long been a reliable fantasy asset. There were times where he was a DEF1 at Palace (circa September/October 2023). Making a surprise move across London to Fulham this season, it just hasn't happened for him - yet. He only boasts a GPPS of 6.8 (that number was 8.2 in 23/24). But his 13 scary scores against Man United could be the start of his renaissance. He's worth monitoring.

Category Killer Winners:

  • Key Passes: Anthony Elanga (5)

  • Successful Dribbles: Mohammed Kudus (6)

  • Aerials: Paul Onuachu (8)

  • Accurate Crosses Not Corners (ACNCs): Pedro Porro (4)

  • Tackles Won: Emmanuel Agbadou (5)

  • Interceptions: Kalvin Phillips (6)

Dr. Peter Venkman Award:

Alejandro Garnacho (Manchester United MID; 0.5 ghosts): The subject of much transfer speculation in this January window, Alejandro Garnacho has been dreadful. Amorim has yet to consistently rely upon him so it would surprise no one if he moved on this week. For now, though, let's take a look at his most recent cameo. Garnacho was only able to muster a half of a ghost point - all from 1 Successful Dribble. He's proven to be one of the most attacking return dependent midfielder that exists. His 5.7 GPPS is right on par with Yoanne Wissa. Rarely is a Venkman Award so well deserved. See if you can get something for him while you can.
