Manchester United Sleepers

As noted above, these are potential Fantrax Sleepers from Manchester United. These Fantasy EPL players are likely to be drafted in the later rounds. Read below for three under the radar players who could provide excellent value in your pre-season draft.

Diogo Dalot

Position: Defender

21/22 Points: 157 (55th best defender)

21/22 Points Per Start: 7.9 (19 starts)

22/23 Projected Points Per Start: 8.6 (26 starts)

Recommended Draft Pick: 75-90 (12 Team League: Round 7-8)

Overview: Dalot should go into the season as United's starting right-back. After last season, and United's defensive woes, that's not saying much, but Ten Hag will look to sort out this defence. Dalot already offered 9.5 ghost points per start and will provide added value if he can keep a few more clean sheets. He has DEF1 upside if he continues to be an attacking threat, hopefully getting a few more returns. If Wan-Bissaka does stay at United, Dalot should still see 70% of EPL starts. Also be wary of United bringing in a RB signing.

I would look to draft Dalot in round 7-8, with the hope you have drafted a potential DEF1. Dalot should offer more upside than most players available around then, and is worth a pick. If you don't have any United fans in your league you may be able to draft him in round 9, which would be a steal.

Harry Maguire

Position: Defender

21/22 Points: 155.5 (56th best defender)

21/22 Points Per Start: 5.4 (28 starts)

22/23 Projected Points Per Start: 7.3 (30 starts)

Recommended Draft Pick: 121 or later (12 Team League: Round 11 or later)

Overview: Maguire truly had a season to forget at United, with error after error leading to many calling for him to be dropped and stripped of captaincy. As of now, I do believe he will start the season in the XI, and could offer sneaky late round value. I am fully against using a high draft pick on Maguire, as there will be similar players who offer more upside and certainty than him. Maguire was once a 10PPM defender, and will hope to get somewhat close to that again under Ten Hag. He is a threat from set pieces and against lower table teams offers a decent floor of headers and clearances. I expect him to be a solid DEF3 this season with DEF2 upside in some matches.

I would recommend using an 11th round or later pick on Maguire. Most managers will be afraid to draft him at all, and he could slip to rounds 13-14. Drafting Maguire as your DEF3 is my recommendation if you are looking to add him to your roster.

Fred

Position: Midfielder

21/22 Points: 221 (47th best midfielder)

21/22 Points Per Start: 8.8 (34 starts)

22/23 Projected Points Per Start: 8.3 (26 starts)

Recommended Draft Pick: 157 or later (12 Team League: Round 14or later)

Overview: Fred is usually the punchline of most memes, but just had his best season for United in both fantasy and reality last year. Despite United's struggles, Fred was one of few shining players and deserves credit for his work ethic. He even found himself finishing with 4 goals. Fred usually offers a solid floor when starting, but also saw a lot more minutes in the #8 role with Pogba's "injuries". I don't expect Fred to have a role like that this season, and he may even see his minutes significantly reduced. Frankie De Jong looks like he's close to signing for United, and there are links to other midfielders across Europe, showing Ten Hag is not happy with the "McFred" duo. Fred is most likely a MID6 type player this season, and one you can pick up off the waiver wire if he is in the XI.

I wouldn't mind taking a gamble on Fred in round 14, but be warned of the good chance he sees a reduction in his fantasy output and minutes. At round 14 you are usually throwing darts, and if Fred manages to rack up early season minutes you could "trade high" on him. If you absolutely have your heart set on drafting Fred, then the earliest I could recommend drafting him is round 13.

Honorable Mention(s):

Anthony Elanga deserves the honourable mention here. He had a decent season for United, and with the lack of attacking signings coming in, will surely see some decent minutes this season. He is one to punt on in round 14 or later similar to Fred, but don't be afraid to drop him if he doesn't get a start by GW2.
