Southampton Predicted Starting Lineup: Graphical View
As mentioned in the Best Players and Sleepers articles, this Southampton team is very bare bones. They have a few new and exciting players, but team depth is seriously lacking. More signings are to be expected, but the new owners' moneyball approach will surely take time to implement and get right, so a difficult season is on the cards. Most positions essentially pick themselves, as there isn't really anyone on the bench to seriously challenge the defensive spots or JWP. Romeo Lavia is a very exciting young talent who has been signed from Man City for big money, so Oriol Romeu's spot could come under threat.
Nathan Redmond, Moussa Djenepo, Nathan Tella and Theo Walcott will take some minutes from the presumed starters of Che Adams, Stuart Armstrong, and Joe Aribo, but I don't expect any to mount a serious challenge for a starting spot. Moi Elyounoussi has a chance to carve out a proper time-share with either winger, however, and is one to watch in case he establishes himself in the first team. Sekou Mara has been signed to shore up the most vulnerable position up front, but the young Frenchman will take time to adjust, so Adam Armstrong will deputize for Adams in the early stages of the season.
